Melo isn't a fit in Houston IMO and i don't think he'd go back to the West. We'll see what happens tho.

In all honesty I think Chicago is his best option. All the offensive pressure and defensive pressure isn't on him and there are role players that can fit in. All he has to do is what his specialty is.....get buckets. Chicago offense even with D Rose got stagnant at times. He'd be a damn fool to not go there. Houston....just no. Harden isn't the type of scorer he can mesh with. McHale probably won't demand as much of him as Thibs would. Melo really needs to think about this. If he goes to Chicago they have a legit shot at contending with Miami in the east and would already be better than the Pacers imo.

Oh and @Hank Scorpio  never being a FA is an excuse from Melo. I never bought that weak excuse. You know what direction you want your career to go in. When he gave that answer, it was the answer he wanted to hear. It was the classic athlete "maybe I'll stay" answer without pissing off the fan base.

I've been expecting him to leave since last offseason so this is going along as I thought. Even though Dolan would've never allowed it, that's why I was OK with dealing him for max value. Phil can somewhat salvage something in S&T deal but it won't be the same type of cash out.

Maybe it's because he's always nonchalant, but a lot of people underestimated the pressure he feels to win NOW in relation to his peers. ****** make jokes about patches and all that but dude definitely hears & feels it.

I'm not taking a stance either way on it. I'm just saying that's what it's about for him.

Does Melo watch basketball? Why the hell would he want to go to HOU or CHI if he wants to win now?
Both situations he'd be looked at as the "missing piece" to a title contender. And they're in much better position than the Knicks for 2015.

And yeah...Melo to the Bulls is what it should be.

According to Yahoo! Sports Melo leaning towards leaving Knicks. Chicago and Houston are front runners [emoji]128530[/emoji]
Legitimate questions whether 'Melo can coexist with Rose and Thibs' style, as well as Harden and D12. Anthony would have to buy-in 110% defensively along with constant hustle and burdensome minutes on a nightly basis. In Houston, Beard is ball-dominant and you always worry about keeping Howard happy with touches.

I'm fine whether he stays or goes and the team will be too.

If he feels Chicago is best than by all means do what you feel. They are closer to competing than we are if we want to be honest with ourselves. If Rose is even 85% of what he was than it's a move worth exploring. And a Houston Big 3 would be intimidating if they work things out.

Now go get us some draft picks for him Phil, or something with value.

He'll fall right in line with Chicago. For one, it wouldn't be "his" team. Yeah he'd be their best scoring option, but guess what? That team format existed before him and was more successful in the east without him. He wouldn't have to score 35+ to win consistently, defensively he'd have to buy in because the whole squad plays D as a team. Defense is one of those things where even if you've been lazy at it, when you go to a team and the entire team has that mindset, you fall in and play and when you see it works you want to play it and get better at it. He's capable of that. Thibs would def make him accountable, McHale..not so much. He can def exist with the new version of Rose, whatever that may be. Keep in mind-they don't want Rose to stress on offense because they want to preserve his career, so going after Melo would work out in their best interest.

Agreed. Butler does the dirty work and hits the spot up 3s. Snell is the undead shooter off the bench. Melo gets to rest on the average offensive player on defense or whatever.

Dude, they're role players. How much of a ceiling do you think they have? Those would be PERFECT hustle role players btw. They can still be molded into that and are VERY coachable.
Snell is probably a lifetime role player but Butler has a higher ceiling. He can perform up to a level in a tier just below PG24 and Kawhi.

Don't get me wrong, I like Butler and Snell, but I think you're overvaluing Butler a bit. He can look like PG24 and Sugar K in a certain context, but that might be stretching his talent a bit and might fail. Keep him where he is in his role and it might serve you better in the long run.

Butler is already a top-notch perimeter defender under Thibs with his length and ability to guard 1 through 4. He's only 24. Jimmy's scoring jumped 5.0 PPG in the past season. Although his three-point shot regressed. A case of a young prospect who needs to spend all summer in the gym hoisting jump shots.

I honestly don't blame Melo for leaning towards Hou or Chi if he leaves this summer because signing a long term contract with New York this summer is still too risky Look at it like this, he signs a five year contract with us this summer then he's praying DFish can at least get them to the 2nd Round this year and relying on the unreliability of FA I hopes. Meanwhile you have our top two targets, Love and Robdo, potentially landing in Boston on draft night making it even less appealing to be locked down in NY with no concrete evidence we can pull another Big 3 in summer 2015.

However I still think he's a dumbass for not listening to Phil and waiting until next summer to become a FA. That way he can still compete in the playoffs, maybe get lucky hit a hot streak and make it to the conference finals, while also being able to test out Fisher as a coach and see how Phil runs the ship. Not to mention it would give him more time to analyze other potential landing spots like if Boston does get Love and Rondo he could just head there, or if Harden decides to give damn on defense and improve on that end. It'd give him time to see how Rose bounces back. And I think he'd have the most leverage next season by trying to recruit people to New York and if no one comes then it would be an even split from the organization. We rebuild and he gets to handpick the best situation for him. I don't see why he didn't listen to Phil honestly

Progress...yes. But it could be fools gold if you play him incorrectly. That increase in production was a side effect of Rose's injuries the last two years. He HAD to play like that for them to be effective. Now, that's a bonus for Chicago because he shows what he's capable of and it was unexpected. Let's say Chi gets Melo, you tell him that you don't need as much from him because there's more help, but it's a bonus because you can still preserve him and he can add extra punch if the offense goes stagnant for Chi. He can focus on hustle plays and such, but he's a capable scorer. This would make him MORE effective say, than making him a starter. Giving him more and running plays for him would be bad in the long run because there are still others more talented than he is. At this point, you don't know if he's overachieved or not.

I see snell as a role player but I see butler with a higher ceiling.

Oh, an D.ROSE isn't ever coming back 100%.
