2014 NFL Draft Thread

I just realized that Minnesota had a 1st round pick this year, I thought they traded away future 1st round picks last year when they took 3 players in the first.

Johnny Football is gonna get murked in the NFL if he runs around like he did in college

they said he was gonna get hurt running around in college too :rolleyes

i think people really mix up his ability to run and being a run first quarterback.

I get NT loves Johnny Football because of his "swag" etc and I like him too but do you really see him holding up in the NFL the way he plays?

NT gets blinded by their love for players

He was hurt several times this year; it doesn't get any better when those are faster/stronger NFL players

i think he's talented as hell and exciting to watch. i just don't trust him to keep his head down and study. talent alone won't get you by in the next level. and i know people said he did the "work" at TAMU, but i don't know. throw top pick money at him and god knows how much partying is going to go down. i just don't trust him in that respect.

and i don't blame him one bit for soaking it up and doing what he's doing. i would take advantage of every opportunity i got to party with famous people and take home volleyball boobed women. not knocking him one bit for that stuff cause i'd do it, too.

his injuries this year were because he trucked a linebacker, (which he didn't try the rest of the season ), and he hurt his thumb because his center got pushed back into the pocket, and he hit the center's helmet on the follow through of his throw.

johnny is listed at 6 foot 210 lbs. drew brees is listed the same, bridgewater is 2 inches taller, and 10 pounds lighter. russell wilson is listed at 5'11 and 210.

so to me, the whole "will he last thing" is a bit overblown. i'd be more concerned about cleaning up some bad habits like throwing off his back foot and knowing when to just throw the ball away sometimes.

Exactly my thoughts

There are reasons Bortles is considered a better NFL prospect by scouts

didn't know that, but i don't think it changes much. i think he still obviously becomes more famous and more caught up in that matt leinart lifestyle. not saying he'll turn out like matt did. but i think it'll keep him from being worth that high a pick and great in the league.

i will say i can't wait to see who takes him and how he pans out in the league.

I'm not sure I understand how you can knock Johnny down, but hype Bortles up. How exactly does that work?

You watched Manziel run thru the SEC for 2 years, you've seen Bortles run thru whom? :\

Measurables get you so far, how you can be sure that Bortles has more than that, at this point, is beyond my understanding.

And I'm not even a huge Johnny guy.

I just think Johnny will be a top 5 pick because teams will fall in love him as long as his background check is relatively clean and he does well during interviews.

I don't know how good he will be but he has shown an ability to get better

Wut?

He's an all star QB from Texas who went to a top in school state.

Your telling me his parents ain't gonna let the kid live?

Has been see at different games / venues partying it up, whos paying for that?

Your reaching broseph.

I'm hardly reaching man

You get put on the biggest stage with your own millions; it's a big difference between college and mom and dad's money no matter how successful you are

he's probably going top 5; I am just not sold he will be a star NFL QB nor am I sold Bortles will be either

NT acts like Johnny is gonna come in and be a sure fire franchise saver; he is one of the most risky picks in the 1st round IMO

Seriously. I hope Minnesota is not that stupid to trade up to #2, give the Rams what they'd want for that pick and draft Bortles.

Would not be happy. Only way I'd want them to do that would be for Teddy and probably Johnny. Other than that, I'd rather stand pat at 8 and go BPA.

I just realized that Minnesota had a 1st round pick this year, I thought they traded away future 1st round picks last year when they took 3 players in the first.

They never traded away that first and they gained the other two by trading away Percy to Seattle and then trading the a majority of their middle round picks to jump back into the first round and draft Patterson.

This is one of the deepest drafts I could remember, wow. For some reason, other than the Eagles, I really don't want to see the Browns mess this up. If they play their card right they could make a lot of noise next year.

Someone knocking Bortles explain why he won't be a good NFL QB; I'm 99% sure most people didn't even watch him play this year

and Jake Locker was looking like the #1 pick in the draft had he not returned; let's not act like he was a reach to the Titans at that point

And almost everyone thought that was going to be an asinine pick if Locker went to St. Louis that year.

You sound like someone who just despises Manziel and only watched Blake beat Baylor.

No one is saying he's not going to be a decent QB. It's everyone saying he won't/shouldn't be drafted anywhere near the top 10. It's idiotic to draft a guy there who should be sitting his entire first year+.

wrong I like Manziel but I am far from sold on him as an NFL QB; all I see is Bortles bashing around here

if I have to take Bortles or Manziel then I would probably take Bortles

I can't help the Johnny Football slurp fest around here and you still haven't said anything about why he won't be a good NFL QB; why should he be sitting his entire first year?

Then that would be a terrible decision. All I've seen you rag on is how he's going to get leveled in the NFL because he leaves the pocket too much.

Bad mechanics, bad arm slot, bad decision making, bad at picking up the 2nd read and forces a good % of his throws. He still needs a lot of work.

And it's farrrrrrrrrrrr from a slurp fest for Johnny here...maybe in the draft threads
