^ nah.. everyone thought we were going take steven jackson the year we took shawn andrews

Him too but I remember once they traded up Anthony Gargano claimed the pick was going to be Wilfork and he was very close to Reid

I don't see that, at all.

WR class is deeeeeep, why would teams need to draft 7 in the first damn round? Damn near 25% of the league going to take a non essential position, in a year in which the class is deep and you can get just as good values in the 3rd-4th-5th rounds?

Why?

I'll be pretty shocked if 6-7 come off the board on day 1, blown away really.

Wide receiver aint that deep.

Getting cute gets you fired.

i only think 5 WRs go in the first.. watkins, evans, cooks and beckham are locks..

then it's a toss up

5 is the max that go in the 1st round IMO

Locks for me are Evans, Cooks, Watkins, Beckham

potential 5th WR: Lee but I think he slides into the 2nd round

"first round talent" at WR is a luxury to have but not a necessity to win. especially when teams have so many other holes to patch. that's why six off the board is a lot, sneaker pro. i think that's the way i'd look at it.

Please enlighten me to what position is more of a neccesity than wide receiver outside of quarterback.

Its funny to me that Seattle winning the Super Bowl has people thinking wide receivers arent important when the Seattle Seahawks have invested more salary cap space into pass catcher than any other position on their roster, nevermind what they gave up for Percy Harvin in draft picks.

If wide receiver isnt that important of a position somebody needs to tell John Schneider.

I so badly want Philly to draft Lee.

out of curiousity, why?

figured you would want to see chip with cooks or evans

I'd be happy with Lee but I really want Robinson in the second

I think Benjamin takes a big slide in this draft

Last few Super Bowl winners

Seahawks
Ravens
Giants
Packers
Saints
Steelers

Colston, Jordy, Torrey Smith, Cruz, Boldin, Holmes, Ward, not to mention Welker playing in 3 of those, Donald Driver, or James Jones, from the losing teams.

Nicks is the only 1st round guy that really made a splash, and they are no where close to the reasons their teams are successful.

So yeah, unless you are getting a Calvin, or Randy Moss, drafting a Wide Receiver early is stupid. Steve Smith, TO, Julian Edelman, Brandon Marshall, Antonio Brown, Mike Wallace, Keenan Allen, all show you can get value later down the line.

Edit
****, I thought smith was a late 1st. Good lookin out 729.

WRs in the first for the most part are luxury picks.

Unless like stated, it's a Megatron.
i would say it depends on the part of the 1st.. i would only take a megatron, aj green or fitz in the top 10

All of that money invested and none of those WRs caught a TD pass until Seattle was up 29-0.

Nevermind that their best players are all their rookie contracts, though.

it's not that they're not that important...they're important. but you don't need ELITE talent at the position to win. and unless you're getting a CJ81, julio, and in this draft probably sammy....there's no need to use a first round pick on one of this year's guys IF you have other holes, especially on defense. fix your holes early, then grab a day 2 or 3 prospect later.

if your team is fine defensively and at offensive line, knock yourself out and draft a WR in the first.

Tom Brady was throwing to midgets and Marvin McNutt's all season and still made it to the AFC championship game.

Established teams can take a flyer on the WR in the first if they want. If you've got Chad Henne at QB, you might wanna go a different route.

Once again Seattle's defense is not filled with first rounders.

The Detroit Lions have more 1st rounders on their defensive line than Seattle has in their whole starting defense.

So, as I was saying. This class is DEEP. 25-30 guys that can find roles in the NFL. Seeing 25% of the league take one in round 1 sounds like a stretch to me. If it happens, great, but the smarter teams will let guys drop to them and pounce. (Steelers, Ravens, Packers, Patriots, etc)

You would think a Lions fan and their infinite wisdom of drafting crappy receivers would understand that's not a go to spot in round 1. Calvin being the lone exception.

To save you the effort of making fun of my team, the Dolphins best receivers have been Duper a 2nd, Clayton an 8th, Marshall a 4th, Hartline a 4th, Wallace was a 3rd, Chambers was a 2nd. (not all drafted by us of course)

WR has to be put within the context of the team.. and also for most of these guys the team it's going adjust to learning how to play in the NFL

if the Oline cant block for the QB.. then the QB wont have the time to get the ball to the WR.. and if you dont have another WR or TE or RB who can be a viable option in the passing game, then teams just can roll the safety coverage to that WRs side of the field..

but that's football.. it's a team game

but then again you can only look at who is available when it comes your time to make a pick.. in an ideal world you would prefer to have certain positions available if you're  a team pick in the top 10 or top 20
