2014 NFL Draft Thread

If guys don't have poise under pressure by this point then they probably never will.
Yet there are a lot in this very thread who loves Jimmy Garropolo but from everything I read this is one of his major weak points. But I'm supposed to think this guy is a borderline 1st round talent & better than Bridgewater?

Doesn't add up.

Yes

Shaky pocket presence is such an overused con on a QB; if you have subpar o-lines and don't stand in there to get whacked time after time then "experts" throw that right on the scouting report

I keep hearing Bridgewater has exceptionally great pocket presence.  Sounds like a huge green flag to me.  Hasn't a lack of pocket presence been one of the most common factors for QB busts?

But more factors play well into a QB having low pocket awareness than just taking hits.

Bridgewater's stats when blitzed or facing pressure is far better than any QB in this draft...scouts say he reads the defense/ pressure like he's been in the league already so thats y they probly said he was the most ready to play b4 his workouts and all that

I was looking at an article a few months back comparing the "top four" QBs.

Under pressure Bridgewater and Bortles were essentially the same, Bortles - 63.24% Bridgewater 62.96% Manziel - 60.38% Carr - 50%.

Where Bridgewater stood out was against the blitz, Bridgewater - 76.92% Bortles - 71.05% Carr - 69.40% Manziel - 68.57%

Here's the article it has a few more breakdowns http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/45952/349/2014s-quarterback-conundrum

"Blaine Gabbert sometimes struggles against pressure, but he can be taught to fix that in the NFL. What you can't teach are his size and arm strength."

^^^ Thats the funny part about the Draft, how these teams/GM'S /scouts fall for the same **** over and over again

How you handle or pressure/blitzes its one of the easiest ways and first signs that show up for QB's that end up sucking

"Gabbert is the classic teaser quarterback, in that he's big, athletic and has a good arm, but he just can't operate on game day. He will often look great in practice without live pass rushers, but when the lights are on he folds in the pocket. His internal clock seems accelerated and he often sees phantom pressure on deeper drops."

Who said that?

What's your thoughts on Bortles?

So pretty much everyone will be a bust besides Manziel and Bridgewater according to this thread
I didn't even watch any of these guys in college.  It's just that when I watch Todd McShay frienziedly jerk himself over Blake Bortles it reminds me a lot of him and Kiper pushing Blaine Gabbert.

I don't pay no mind to those two clowns; McShay has a little more respect from me but that isn't saying much because Kiper gets 0 respect from me

Just some columnist from a Jaguars website. Thought he nailed it pretty well.

Bortles... the guy is a wild card. A while ago, someone said he was like Jake Locker in college and I laughed it off because Jake was vastly overrated. Watching the way they play, though, Bortles kinda has a lot of Jake Locker in him. Dunno if that's a good or bad thing, but I'm leaning towards the latter. Not worthy of a top 10 pick, IMO. With the way the NFL rookie contracts are these days it's not a terrible risk to take, but expecting him to come in and Ben Roethlisberger/Joe Flacco from day one? Ehh.

Still, I'm not calling anyone a bust at this point. For me, a lot depends on where they're drafted. Carr in Minnesota is a good look. Carr in Oakland is not. Houston is much better than their record indicated and many of these guys would look good in a Texans uniform... just not at #1. Calling anyone a surefire pro at this point is premature.

For once, I'd love to see no team in the top 5 draft a QB. Clowney, Mack, Robinson, Sammy, and Donald are all guys who I'm willing to toss my name behind.
