How was the early 2000s?

I swore she said "are you ready? "

And I have that song on my phone..

Good find

Yoooooo! I thought the same thing, too. I had to play the video to confirm it

Welp, add another one to the misheard/butchered lyrics thread

One thing I have ALWAYS wanted to see was the concert that was in the Back that Thang up video. It looked like a PODDY!

I saw Cash Money perform it with E-40 just chilling on stage before the video dropped. I had no idea that a local bounce song would go on to be THAT big. People still talk about that song and it's crazy to me.

But 2000... damn man. I was signing up for the Navy after f'n up at LSU for the last time. A couple of years before that, I was living in the athletic dorm and would see and talk to Ryan Clark all the time. Crazy he's on ESPN now.

2000 to me was the beginning of the whole world being plugged into the matrix for real. Everything changed. All the **** me and the homies used to sit around blazing and conspiracy talking about pretty much happened.

Hip Hop is a shell of its former self. Back then, unique style in rap was important. The copying of other dudes wasn't as common as it is now. Fashion wasn't as important back then. If you had some Polo or Guess, you were doing it. Not everyone owned a cell phone yet. You used to write numbers down when you met a woman. The search for a pen was part of the process. If you walked around with a pen they would think you were getting ***** all the time and might not give the number up.

People used to listen to voice messages back then. I don't even know why we have voice messages now. I could be here all day going through memories.

Anyone else remember this from G String Divas that used to come on HBO????

Staying up late night with the adolescent hormones??

How did yall not ever figure it out she spelled Rule though.

Im not gonna lie say i always knew but i got it eventually.

I used to say are you ready and are you elli

How did people not know what she was spelling? Lol

Lack of lyric sites was another thing in the early 2000s. I remember buying CDs and being so happy when they insert had the lyrics for all the songs.

That's another thing I really miss actually. Buying a video game or CD and opening it up and checking out the insert with lyrics or the game manual and trying to memorize the controls before I even got home to play the game

Games don't even come with instructions or guides any more. It's just a single piece of paper asking you to spend $50 more on a season pass :smh: Video games used to come with mini books sometimes or atleast a pamhplet looking thing. We get a SINGLE piece of paper now. C'mon

Yeah that's crazy. A single sheet with a website link to view the manual. GTA maps would hang on my wall.

When rappers used brag about having shoes that don't come out until next year lol.

Man, people hate on Ja. But he was HUGE in the early 2000's That is until 50 came along.

Clue or Envy had the first verse on their mixtape and this song still amps me up to this day.

And you think Cam had everybody wearing pink in 2004? Jay had everybody in "baby blue" in the summer of 2000.

Man I was pissed too! I used to mess with AF1's heavily during that time. And here they come with the AF1 video and all these regional exclusives I couldn't get.

Baggy clothing, terrible music production (overall), internet boom, 9/11 shook the nation. Alot went on...

What?
Beats by The Pound, Mannie Fresh, Timbaland, Lil Jon, Scott Storch, Organized Noize, The Neptunes, hell even DJ Paul & Juicy J, Dr. Dre, and Kanye West were still dropping some heat.

Ok maybe some of that is late 90s

Terrible music production?

The late 90's - early 00 music was great period.

Including R&B

All of this

Timbaland
Just Blaze
Alchemist
Mannie Fresh
Kanye West
No ID
Toomp
BattleCat
Cool and Dre

Nah man some legends were in their prime or just getting warmed during the early 2000s

Overall, I wasn't feeling most of the production that was out but the list of producers y'all named are ill.

Walkmans with the anti-skip

2002 my 1st cell phone, Motorola Star-Tac $.25 a text message got me in trouble when i learned to text. Only had 250 minutes, then eventually the free nights & weekends. "Ay ill call you back after 7" ... cant use the house phone cuz my mama always waiting on a call from somebody :smh: dont use the phone for more than 5 min she gon talk about tying up the line but she talk for 30+ minutes and i cant use the internet til 8pm :x

MP3 players that could only hold 10 songs (before the ipod) ipod was too expensive

Everyone brought out the dollar menus

106th & Park, TRL, Cribs

Y2K - end of the world, kkk returns, worldwide power outage ... had everybody clock watching and spooked

Headbands, tall tees, throwbacks, matching hats/stickers on the hats, FUBU/FUBU Platinum, Iceberg, Ecko, Phat Farm, Girbaud

Kazaa, Morpheus, Limewire

I am so with you with the instructions in the video games. Now, they just tell you to go online to check the controls or they have it when it's loading up the game.

It was really nice and unique when you would get a CD, it would have the lyrics but sometimes there would be artwork and of course at the end there would be a "thanks" section from the artist.

I'm 29 and I remember the following:

House parties in high school were circulated via flyers created on pen and paper with a map drawn on it because GPS wasn't around

Phone conversations were had with females late at night via landline connection

Females used to take pictures at the mall with them sparkly backgrounds and hand out wallet sized photos with notes written on the back

Internet chat rooms were popular and friends would chat via Instant Messenger. It was common to group together in a private chatroom with friends to BS around

Customizing your MySpace (or equivalent social site) webpage required HTML coding, and people took the "Top 10" spots seriously

106 and Park, The Box, MTV, and MTV2 were popular as hell. Everyone was into music videos back then.

Air Force 1s were probably the most popular kicks to have. I still have plenty of AF1 lows when patent leather was the fuss :smokin

Everyone used to download music illegally via Limewire or Kazaa and use the .MP3 files to burn mixtape CDs. I remember I used to have ppl write playlists for me and I'd burn em for $5

Fashion was all over the place, but baggy jeans, oversized jerseys/tees, and no show socks were popular in my area (Dallas, TX)

All in all, it was a great time now that I look back. Technology was evolving, but had not yet got to the point where we lived on our phones.
