Damn that sucks! When I eventually get to the phase where I need to go to a barber to get it shaped; I'm going to do some recon before I just let anyone shape it.

Got my beard shaped up. I always tell my barber to edge it to the widest. Cut my stray hairs with scissors. That castor oil and coconut have done great things for me.

Yea man it does bro..I never go to the barber to let them edge my beard up, but decided to do it anyways and dude trims it way down..I guess nowadays you've got to walk these guys through it even after you've told them what exactly to do..

So what do beards and toilets have in common? According to a microbiologist based in New Mexico, they can be equally as dirty.

In a small experiment conducted by Action 7 News in Albuquerque, a group of men had their beards swabbed for testing and the samples were handed to a laboratory for analysis. The results: Many of the men were walking around with the same bacteria swimming around in toilet bowls.

Beards sometimes as dirty as toilets
A handful of brave men allowed Action 7 News to swab their beards, and the results showed some beards are as dirty as toilets.
“Those are the types of things you’d find in (fecal matter),” John Golobic from Quest Diagnostics told the reporters. “There would be a degree of uncleanliness that would be somewhat disturbing.” He suggested that men wash their hands often while doing their best to avoid touching their face frequently.

“Beards can be messy and filthy, but they don’t have to be,” Allan Peterkin, bestselling author of One Thousand Beards: A Cultural History of Facial Hair and co-author of The Bearded Gentleman: The Style Guide To Shaving Face, tells Yahoo Health. “Some men believe that freedom from shaving is freedom from hygiene and maintenance yet nothing could be further from the truth, both for health and aesthetic reasons.”

For the man who prefers facial scruff, Peterkin offers these grooming tips:

Clean it like the hair on your head. “I recommend that a guy wash his beard every morning in the shower with mild shampoo or the same shampoo with conditioner that he uses on his head,” he says. “That way it becomes an instant, daily routine.” Peterkin adds that some men prefer beard-specific washes and conditioners, which are just as fine.

Clip and condition post-shower. “After taking a shower, most guys do a once over with blunted scissors or an electric clipper to remove stray hairs and to tidy the beard margins at the cheek and neckline,” he states. “And it’s not a bad idea to use a tiny dab of your face moisturizer or post-shave balm to condition and soften the beard.”

Practice eating etiquette. “There’s nothing more unappealing than food getting stuck in your beard!” says Peterkin. “Chew with your mouth shut, use your napkin throughout your meal, and then check your face during a bathroom break.”

Not surprising, there are plenty of dudes walking around with janky, unkept facial hair (that doesn't even deserve to be called a beard).

Mines grows on the sides patchy and slow and not much compared to my chin and upper lips...... Has that peanut butter thing worked?

Trimmed mine last night.

Hit it with the guard on high. Only knocked off a few stray hairs (my intentions). Lowered the guard to hit the mustache.

Brushed my teeth.

Decided to hit the beard again. Immediately heard it cut too much. It was too late and I had forgotten I left it low.

You live and you learn.

I know that feel, problem with mine is my hair grows slow so it takes months to get back where I was .

i gotta admit I forget to put shampoo or conditioner in my beard when it's long. I use facewash so that probably cleans it decent enough.

I think sometimes barbers do that on purpose, do the complete opposite of what you ask for. They mess up my sideburns most of the time so usually I just go in with a full beard and tell them to leave it alone.

Beards tested to be as dirty as toilets

ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO (KRON) — From Brian Wilson to James Harden, beards are huge right now, both figuratively and literally. But a new report says there might be a reason to really fear the beard.

Microbiologist John Golobic from New Mexico found that some beards have as many germs as a toilet seat, “these are the types of things that cause urinary tract infections.”

A handful of men agreed to have their beards tested to see what, if anything is growing in them.

After testing them, even Golobic surprised at the results. “I’m usually not that surprised and I was surprised by this,” Golobic said.

All of the beards tested had a lot of bacteria. Not all of it was bad, just the normal bacteria found on most surfaces, showing that beards can trap and hold quite a bit.

But some of the beards had a different type of bacteria, similar to the type found in, you guessed it, poop. Golobic put it more professionally, saying, “these are enterics, these are the types of things you find in feces.”

While this bacteria may be gross, Golobic said it won’t make a person sick, but “there would be a degree of un-cleanliness that would be somewhat disturbing.”

Golobic recommends thorough beard scrubbing, lots of hand washing, and “try to keep your hands away from you face. As much as possible.”

And here’s a frightening thought; if a city was to find samples like the ones found in beards in the water supply, they would shut it down for disinfecting.

Yea I agree fam I think that they do..When you say go with a full beard do you mean you don't let them shape it up at all? I might have to just get my haircut and do my own damn beard for it to be like I want it to be...

Cop Biotin today lets see what happen in the next few weeks or even months lol idk I was kind of skeptical about it , if it had bad side effects .

No side effects, thing is you just gotta remember to take it daily to see significant gains.

They won't line up my beard unless I ask them to, I never do. I think they'd charge me a few extra bucks to do it anyway. Like you said, only you yourself knows how you want your beard to look exactly.

Exactly fam..I think from now on i'll just get a cut without them touching my beard....

real question. how yall get your beards lined up straight. i have horrible hand eye coordination , so i just go to the barber and get it trimmed and lined up like once a week. i grew tired of the huge beard so i just keep it at a 2 now.
