its just what dantoni does

landry fields, steve novak, linsanity, shumpert all had several 20+ point games playing under dantoni. once they left the system they went back to being trash

Landry Fields is a solid rebounding guard, but I do agree he played well in the system. The problem with Landry Fields is that he folds under pressure in big time games. The man was never built for those type of games.

Also, Melo coming to the team right when Fields was getting a lot of minutes hurt his development. It's not a knock on Melo, but it's what happened. You can't expect Fields to keep getting 20-25 mins when you have Melo playing the same position.

well a lot of role players fold during big games when the defense is turned up and they dont have a playmaker to make the game easier (felton played well under dantoni but he wasnt that great or anything), fields isnt too bad in toronto right now hes doing whats expected of him

i was just pointing out that all the guys we have had this year that have had big games (20+) are not special at all since 1. its dantoni's system 2. no kobe so someone has to score. if this team came back next year with kobe and no one missed a game through out the season we would be fighting for an 8th spot at best

In other words....you see playoff potential?

It's ok to agree sometimes

But you are pretty certain about that 8th seed given we've hardly seen kobe with this team and the draft isn't until June

Add a rookie lebron/melo/wade/bosh/westbrook to a team like this. That's what you're doing if this draft is worth all the tank talk. Kobe is an unknown but it's not crazy to think he can still play at a high level. Get a few solid free agents...that's comparable to a bunch of playoff teams on paper at least.

You're right about the Knicks playing well under mda but besides Lin none of those guys performed quite like our guys. Landry and Novak were never as good as bazemore, brooks, x, Meeks ....our guys have more natural talent despite how the system lets them flourish.

making an 8th seed is the worst possible thing that can happen to a team, if we build a team next year with a goal to get the 8th seed someone needs to hire a sniper to take mitch out

Following the win, Meeks spoke to the media about his impressive performance and the 26-year-old gave a hat tip to Kobe Bryant for helping him with his approach to the game, night in and night out.

we need to get wiggins on the kobe system

What do you guys think about Phil potentially taking the job with the Knicks?

I think this is a big **** up by Jim and Mitch.

Why? because I think if the winningest coach in professional sports history is available, and is getting married to into the family.

You bring him in in some fashion.

Bring him to the table of discussion at LEAST.

Thoughts?
Until I see Phil shaking Dolan's hand, I think he's using Stephen A. Smith as a dummy.

Another thing to note, if Phil signs on in new York. I could see Phil making an attempt to recruit pau Gasol there.

Whoever he hires to coach will certainly run the triangle. And pau loved the triangle.

PJ should be our equivalent to Miami's Pat Riley.  Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part but I think he's playing the waiting game with the Knicks, to give the Lakers a chance to reach out to him.  You know he wants to work with wifey.

There are your coaching options. And off the top, you KNOW most of those aren't moving. Carlisle, Thibbs, K, JVG, Vogel, etc.

Not one of those guys leftover upgrades over Mike D'Antoni.

Not, one.

So everyone, what's plan B? Blank check and unlimited power for Phil? Call Magic again? Make Kobe earn all 48 million by also being the coach?

I think Phil has legit interest in the Knicks, but their infrastructure will have to be overhauled for him to take the job. Hell he even doesn't want to be an every day president. Also at the same time, I believe he's using the situation as leverage on the Lakers, we are really the only situation where that may fly. He wanted to be a somewhat part time coach a couple years ago reportedly, he just wants the power position, but not the day to day tasks that come with them I think.

Lakers are the only place that can happen, Phil is teflon here forever, not the case in New York.

Stephen A. also said that his source in LA said MDA is gone after this season :pimp:

You should also add Lionel Hollins, David Fizdale (Heat assistant), anybody from the Spurs staff, Fred Hoiberg, Ron Adams (Celtics assistant) and Kelvin Sampson (Rockets assistant) to the list.

Added.

Still none of them better than Mike.

Monty would be my favorite of the list, and he's not exactly killing it.

Byron Scott would be next, meaning we'd be good for 2 years and then the team would revolt and he'd be gone.

I don't know if i'm in the minority here, but i'd love Jerry Sloan leading us, I always loved his coaching style.

If Phil were to take a position with the Lakers, wouldn't it be Mitch's?

Unless they create some tweener position for him that somehow wields power without stepping on Jim or Mitch's shoes.

Yeah, he basically wants Mitch's job.

I guess they could give him President of Basketball Ops instead of the General Manager title that Mitch has. He can "oversee" everything while Mitch does the day to day stuff? Kind of like the Larry Bird-Kevin Pritchard relationship.
