I'm digging around, and just stumbled on some old *** coded site that was a forum of some sort talking about the Lakers and Mavs were in talks to swap Nick Van Exel for Jason Kidd, and Shaq said no, he wanted to keep Nick.

Ska dies inside.

What difference does it make if you won 3 Chips anyway?  Unless Kidd was going to keep Shaq & Kobe together.

if we had kidd that would mean we would have faced an easier opponent in the 02 finals

would have probably won in 3 games

I like how it's Jim Buss has ego, when Phil Jackson is a HUGE egomaniac.

They both have ego's. And PJax ego is prob 10x the size of Jim's

Buuuuut one of those ego's is understandable and deserved ...I'll let you figure out which one that is :nerd:

Tell me your proof that Jim Buss has a big ego.

Mike D'Antoni? That was his father's choice. Even Phil says it was Jerry's.
Bynum? He traded him, and traded him when his stock was highest, and at the perfect moment.

Not giving FINAL power to Phil? That was Jerry's choice. If Dr. Buss was such a great mind, people seem to love to question his choices.

If Jim Buss had an ego, he'd be trotting himself out front and center, and taking media spotlight. He never defends himself, never tries. There are owners who rather than try to make their team a winner, they make themselves the story.

Well I can't speak to Jim Buss personally as to I am not in his meetings or know which moves he personally is involved in, so I am going to stick with my originally statement
and say our FO ego is huge for no real reason. Especially after Dr. Buss death.

I don't really like going in the past, it serves no purpose for us going forward ...but you asked

Example #1: Jim Buss 1st dealing with the Mike Brown hire and not reaching out to Kobe at all

If you need anymore ego-driven moves from our FO since the death of Dr. Buss I have a full book thats been obvious to every one but its in the past

And I also think you're confusing my stance on Jim Buss I think he has been out in an HORRIBLE position since the death of his dad

Based on everything that has been reported I'd have to agree that Jim Buss has a huge ego. I'll give him credit for pushing the team to draft Bynum but since that it seems like he's gotten a big head. He let go of the Lakers scouts at the time because he felt he would be better at scouting than them and that "If you grabbed 10 fans out of a bar and asked them to rate prospects, their opinions would be pretty much identical to those of the pro scouts." He also didn't wanna hired Shaw because of his affiliation with Phil and thought Phil would get the credit if they won instead of him. If all of those reports are true then Jim is starting to sound a lot like Jerry Jones. If the Lakers struggle again next year, I won't be shocked if he lets Mitch go and tries to take over everything.

They weren't winning any of those post-Shaq pre-Pau years whether they had Kidd or not.  Besides, he's not exactly a fit for the triangle offense.

Other than those 2, completely agree w/ you.
Even if you disagreed with me, you'd get bonus points for at least reading the damn post and comprehending it and not asking things like "Mike D'Antoni is better than Red Auerbach, how could youuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!"

Or something to that effect.
Nah, definitely read & comprehended.

And I think you're right on them both being out of touch w/ what basketball is today. I think part of Brown's frustration w/ Iverson was Iverson's new school ways.

And Sloan, as high as I am on him, that Jazz team was always dudes w/ clearly defined player roles. Stockton ran things. Deron ran things. Malone was a gritty rim guy. Horny & AK47 were scrawny, quiet contributors. Dude wouldn't know what to do w/ a chucker like Young or our WNBA All Star, or KLove for that matter.

Like I mentioned last week, the reason I'm ok w/ keeping MDA... is simply because 'Aisle 17: Head Coach' is... bare. :\
Remember that team Kidd was on that all hatred each other? You could tell no one was having fun, remember them?

No?

I really think he approaches the game w/ a professionalism that glues locker rooms together.

Jesus Christ, all those primes. :\

Not 5, not 6, not 10...

Random fact...

Ryan Kelly has the sixth highest PER of rookies. Unfortunately his defense is horrendous.

Also something else, it seems every time we play the Thunder on ABC we win, every other time we get killed.

This game was so epic

Phil loved taller PG's.

Defensively, Kobe + Kidd, in their primes, with Shaq, Horry, Fox behind them????

Shaq-Kobe feud as much with Kidd feeding both?

Say they do. And we flip Shaq.

Kidd
Kobe
Caron
Odom
C

That team would still be in the mix. A move here or there, maybe we have somethin.

Maybe they don't make the Miami deal, maybe they deal for Dirk, or Brand-Magette, or Stat/Matrix.

Lotta options besides flat out tear down beyond Kobe.

He would have never made it to this year with the Lakers. He was terrible last year.

But he's playing well, glad for him.
