Yeah the only thing they could have done is boycott the game but that would've caused a huge backlash.
What do you imagine the backlash would have been?

i can see a game boycott getting out of hand, like if people actually stand around staples preventing ticket holders from going to the game.

but if its just the majority that just chooses to stay at home that night and very few people attend the game (realistically there will always be people that go) than it would be a successful boycott imo

I could see alot people saying the players need to play and not overreact.

The tape was horrible but at the same time it was super ridiculous.

Like think about it?

It's an old White dude telling his Black/Mexican girlfriend not to associate with her ethnicity publicly

Like wtf? He's crazy

I don't know if we should be upset with this but overlook all these politicians who were supporting that crazy Utah farmer

If this wasn't the playoff I would tank some games. Wonder if this has in say in if CP wants to try to come to other side of the LA Hardwood again.

whatever they do i hope they do it in the offseason

no need to throw all their hard work over the course of the season away because of an idiot owner

Enh.

Backlash smacklash.

Clippers had/have an opportunity to do something history by choosing not to play.

I'm sure if it had been discussed, the Warriors would have joined them in solidarity.

The more problems they cause with a boycott, the more of an emphatic message they send.

It also forces the league and the owners to do something about this habitual line steppin' racist ****.

There are no Ali's or Jim Brown's today,

and its beyond sad.

Repped.

i was watching a segment on the redsox winning last year and how it was a great feeling for the city of boston to be able to rally behind a sports team after the bombings.

this might have an opposite effect where fans across the nation and in LA will throw hate at everything clippers.

This is why KD has never been the best scorer in the league. Not when a man 6 inches shorter than you can zip you up game after game. He needs a post game.

How do y'all think they'll punish the Clippers owner?
just some hefty fine and have sterling do some sort of apology. silver isn't gonna make him sell the team or step down, wouldn't shock me if the league does nothing to him.
this is probably a good read for those who think the league wants  to just turn a blind eye and were left unimpressed with Silver's press conference.

I think we live a "now-first" kind of world where people expect immediate action and forget that whether its a middle school kid getting in trouble for spit wads, getting pulled over for speeding, to hate crimes and things of that extreme; there are rules and by laws that must be followed accordingly.

The people running the NBA, or any successful corporation, aren't that dumb. Lets not kid ourselves.
Report: NBA probably can’t simply force Donald Sterling to sell Clippers
Donald Sterling, V. Stiviano
If the NBA’s investigation into Donald Sterling’s alleged comments corroborates the TMZ report, then what?

That’s the giant elephant in the room.

As much as everyone wants Sterling to get his just due – whatever they feel that may be – there are rules in place. That’s part of the reason Adam Silver wouldn’t address specific consequences.

Michael McCann of Sports Illustrated:

"Forcibly removing Sterling from the NBA is unlikely to happen. The NBA’s constitution, which is confidential, reportedly contains language permitting owners to authorize the league to sell a team without an owner’s consent. The language, SI.com is told, only covers very limited circumstances and these circumstances concern team finances — namely, when an owner can’t pay his bills.

There is reportedly no language authorizing the NBA to sell a team because of an owner’s hurtful remarks or embarrassing behavior. Even if constitutional language could be construed to authorize a forced sale of the Clippers, NBA owners would likely be reluctant to do so given the precedent it would set."

In theory, Silver and the NBA’s other owners can take any actions they see fit. Maybe those actions even violate the league’s constitution. Sterling always has the recourse of pursuing legal avenues himself if he feels they do.

Or maybe he goes quietly into the night, cashing out on a franchise that would surely draw many bidders. He and the NBA can always agree to bypass the league’s constitution.

The rules are in place, and they can influence what happens next. But so much remains uncertain.

Yeah just having the most points all these years in a row is just a total farce. I mean....you have to do more than just score the most points to be the best scorer.

“@ByTimReynolds: Reggie Jackson joins Manu Ginobili as the ONLY players with at least 32 and 9 off the bench in a NBA playoff game in the last 25 years.”

“@DarnellMayberry: Reggie Jackson just had the game of his life. A #podiumgame But the Thunder won't send him in to "be consistent." It'll be Russ & KD”

If this was the regular season, I betcha there would have been a boycott of the clippers. Its too far into the season to quit as a team though. The best thing the NBA can do is suspend Sterling like how MLB suspended Marge Schott.

legally there probably isnt any recourse for the league or other owners to force him to sell the team or take the team from him. being a racist moron isnt a crime, and unless theres some kind of morality or public image clause in the league bylaws, all they can do is probably publicly and privately pressure him into selling. and as we've seen before, Sterling just does not give a damn.

edit: and like others have said, fines and/or suspension. maybe sanctions of some sort?

edit 2: what rck posted.

I think thats why the league is probably investigating if he has done any racial discrimination towards his employees in a direct/deliberate way. Those are the only evidence they can use to indict against him.

not sure if i should feel sorry for doc and the players or not. on one hand they knew what they were getting into and who they would be playing for, but on the other they put a lot of hard work into building this team for themselves and for the fans and it sucks that the words of an idiot that has no day to day interaction with the team is derailing their playoff run.

of course there are the end of bench guys who will take any nba job they can find, but this is mroe about guys like chris and blake that can take their talents to any team  in the league if they wanted

:pimp:
:wow: :x
Death of NT for real.
I ***** with MJ, but that was definitely cold on LBJ's part. Made Jordan so mad that he up and left his seat never to return.

MJ deserves this, all along he has never acknowledged LeBrons talent. MJ is sooo jealous it's LeBron's league.
