Speculation on where Bynum goes after the bulls waive him?

I'm sure he'd love to go to Miami, but with his poor and immature demeanor who knows if they'd want him there disrupting things.

 @ all this Melo on the Bulls talk.

I mean you either believe the Knicks would do a deal or that Melo would walk and leave the money and the Knicks would let him

He will definitely decline his player option.

Grass is always much greener.. He'll have Bulls & Lakers court him.

Knicks couldn't possibly have had a worse year in a player option year when he is genuinely considering walking away.

As for the Bulls - Cavs trade.. Good trade on both fronts

Bulls were going to let Deng walk. They were not going to pay him what he could get in the offseason. They've basically let him know. Offered him an extension (supposedly) and he declined, assuming he will get more on the market. Bulls will have to make some more clearing to get enough space for Melo. Boozer will get amnestied. Maybe they try to move Taj, take back very little salary, use the second rounders they just got with it.

Cavs are trying to make a playoff push. How much better does Deng make them? Not much, but they are better. In the East that could mean a huge difference. Still a first round sweep team. Also the Cavs really need to get rid of some of these picks they've stockpiled. There is something as too many picks, and the Cavs are the embodiment of it. At this point anyone they draft will have their growth stunted, or stunt the growth of someone else the Cavs just drafted since 2011.

if he doesn't go to miami, id' bet it's the clippers. don't see him going to the lakers in the shape their in right now.

Great move by the Bulls. The Bulls will have a lot of cap space as I think Bynum will be released, and the Bulls will amnesty Boozer. Add in the fact that the Bulls will have possibly three top 12 picks at their disposal, as they will be a lottery team in next years draft, the Kings 1st rounder acquired is a possible top 10 pick, and Bobcats pick also. The Bulls can use the two 2nd round picks to build a formidable bench by acquiring some serviceable players in a trade.

The Kings pick is top 12 protected. And no way Kings get better than that. Have to hope Kings actually get good next year.

Bobcats pick is top 10 protected. If they make the playoffs it will be 16th pick (if playoffs start today). Bobcats are also 2 games from that pick staying with them.

 at the thought of the Kings somehow not getting a top 12 pick this year

Maybe/hopefully next year tho :nerd:

Let Rudy Gay lead you to the promise land

I also am aware that you probably misread what I wrote and think that I think Kings will have a pick after 12. :smh:

No way! You were just informing him of the protections on the pick Chicago got, I'm with ya on that!

Also, that's why the Kings won't be able to trade this years pick or any future 1st rd picks, until draft day when the protection moves onto next years 1st rd draft pick

The Cavs are 11-23, and they might have just became the third best team in the East.

Not that that really matters since they still aren't going to touch the only two relevant teams, but this trade has a huge ripple effect of competency (phases out the previous small forward fodder, makes for a more cohesive team on both sides of the ball, moves Bennett back to his real position).

Guessing they try to add a veteran big somewhere along the line, but Irving, Jack, Deng, Thompson, Varejao and Waiters is a pretty strong six in that conference.

Sidebar: Not a Cavs fan, for those of you that don't know. Do love Deng and Varejao, though. Two of the most underappreciated players of the past ~decade.

Also, Irving/Deng/Varejao/Brown bears a fairly strong resemblance to Rose/Deng/Noah/Thibodeau, so that's interesting.

Edit: Could the Cavs conceivably bring Boozer in after he is amnestied? There's your veteran big, and the final piece to that comparison puzzle.

Luol Deng does not make Cleveland the #3 team in the East.

Cavaliers have more problems than just finding a starting SF. They have the 3rd worst defense in the league, and their coach is still Mike Brown. I don't see either of those things improving drastically enough for them to outplay the 10+ teams currently ahead of them.

How did I know that a Wizards fan would be the one to take issue with that?

They're 6.5 games back with almost 50 to go. They don't really have to "drastically outplay" anyone to get there.

But again, we all know it means little. As it stands, Eastern Conference seeds three through eight barely exist this season.

Really? Okay, let's say the 3rd-seed finishes with 42 wins this year (it was 49 last season, but this is a very weak year obviously). Cleveland would have to play at a 31-17 pace with Deng to get 42 wins.

You really think Luol Deng can turn an 11-23 team into 31-17? Remember, this is Luol Deng we're talking about, not Lebron James or Kevin Durant.

If Deng was that good the Bulls wouldn't have been just 14-18 with him.

I think Cleveland is a good bet for the 6th spot now. But there's no way that a team that dysfunctional automatically becomes the 3rd best team in the East by adding one fringe All-Star player.

Thibs done ran Deng into the ground anyway, he's played more minutes than anybody these last couple years.

I doubt he has much left after 30

The Sacramento pick is basically lottery protected till 2016 or 2017 before it turns into a 2nd rd pick

Reading this

Sacramento's 1st round pick to Cleveland protected for selections 1-12 in 2014, 1-10 in 2015, 1-10 in 2016 or 1-10 in 2017; if Sacramento has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Cleveland by 2017, then Sacramento will instead convey its 2017 2nd round pick to Cleveland protected for selections 56-60 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Cleveland will be extinguished)
That is too much IMO, just to rent Luol Deng. Even if he did stay, it still feels like way too much.

Well, they have 23 games left against East teams that aren't the Heat and Pacers, and another 11 against under .500 West teams, so that's a start towards arbitrary 42.

But I said the third best team, not the third best record at the end of the season. As in, from today on.

I guess watching the Cavs make the playoffs and get bounced in the first is better than watching them waste another top 3 pick :rolleyes

Cavs shoulda keep trying to build through the draft IMO

I know they haven't made the best picks but they'll get it right sometime, let Gilbert son pick

Luol is a player but he's already had his best years

Ehh, maybe. I still like Atlanta, they are a disciplined and well-coached team and I don't see them just tanking without Horford. And Toronto, they are playing really well without the cancer.

But speaking as a Wizards fan, if Wittman isn't fired I could easily see Cleveland finishing ahead of us.

The Bulls front office did really well with this move. They have to be one of the frontrunners for a top 5 pick now, plus they have those additional draft picks. That's how you tank and rebuild.

and the bulls free some early cap room too.. cant knock the move.. lakers should've took that bynum deal when they had the chance.. bynum and picks would've been great for them

Deng has been hurt for about 5-10 games this year for Chicago he was definitely a game changer for the Bulls when playing though. I think he's a top 5 SF when healthy and will help the Cavs defensively and offensively. I do agree with the Cavs record though. Might be a lost cause record wise but they are a deeper team to contend in the east if they can actually get it together and make a playoff run.

I don't understand why Cleveland gave up so many picks when Deng will most likely leave after the season. Keep your picks for the draft or a better trade. Bulls gotta great deal.
