No. Makes perfect sense. I'm sure the league is going to make JR Smith and Wilson Chandler start playing in turtle necks.

I heard deshawn stevenson is out of the league because he refused to wear an eye patch on his cheek to cover up his piru tat

Ahhh but that's the actual reason. What's the purpose of covering up "some" tattoos? They're creating a new product to sell.

Tattoo theory makes sense but only 2 reasons for sleeved jerseys:

1. Ad space (it's gonna happen)
2. something new to sell.

Though this is true, you're mostly referring to soccer moms and CEOs who are in their 30's, possible 40's. Those 50-infinity ones, nah these are the ones who still picture rap as throwbacks and band-aids on your cheek.

I do agree with another reason it being another product to sell. Anything to squeeze more money out of people, just like adding playoff games or going from 64 to 128 NCAA teams

I think the NBA has moved away from their issues with tattoos (as society has).  Look at how much LeBron is marketed sleeveless/shirtless, he's got a lot of coverage.  And that doesn't prevent him from being the NBA golden boy like it might have 15-20 years ago.

NBA says the jerseys are selling...but I've never seen anyone actually wearing them.

Got a feeling that these sleeved jerseys will go the way of the ball that Stern tried to tinker with a few years back.

The sleeved jerseys are marketed to fans overseas (translation: soccer fans who like soccer-style jerseys). Then, factor in the Chinese market, because they'll buy anything NBA related.

I haven't really even seen them in stores around here. I was in one place that had the baby blue sleeved Clippers jerseys and that was it. (I guess they sold because I was in the same store about a month after I saw them and they weren't there anymore). So, yeah, I don't think U.S. Americans are the target market for the shirseys.

The image perception isn't as bad as before when they enforced the pregame dress code but the league is still trying to find ways to clean it up.

I wasn't trying to compare myself to anyone just asking a question. Always thought sleeves were commonplace amongst pickup ball and the like but the way people talk in here you think that they never wore sleeves ever.

I agree with this...but i don't now how a small little sleeve really covers that much up. I think its a great marketing strategy. Your average frail basketball fan isn't walking around with bball jerseys on...put sleeves on it and make the players wear it...it becomes more appealing then say your favorite teams t-shirt. Bron should have just worn a bigger shirt. He wears his normal jersey tight but i can see why the short tight sleeves could seem restrictive

I am.

I'm not, but (as most everyone on here knows) I'm a lot older than most NTers. When I was a kid, the stereotype was that only prisoners and bikers had tattoos. It was when I was in high school that they started getting more mainstream. Still, just not my thing. But sometimes I take my son to the park and I'm the only parent WITHOUT a tattoo. I fully expect my son to get one eventually and I'm fine with it.

I agree with that too but I just wanted some to understand there was a little more to it than just the money/marketing aspect. Hell, the original plan was to go with long sleeves but they knew the players weren't having that
