My main reason for contracting is the constant cycle which started with the Melo to MIA comment. Here is how it works in the NBA right now. Teams that either have bad owners/management or suffer serious injuries normally tank to get a higher draft pick. Once they get the higher draft pick they pick up the next superstar, who will play for them and then test free agency where many of them land within the same 16 teams. So why even keep those teams around, I know you would want them there if you are a die hard or are from that city but overall does that team really matter in the grand scheme?

17 teams in the NBA are under .500 , that is more than half of the league and you guys think I'm crazy for wanting to contract league? No I just like to support and watch a good polished product sorry.

Yep, teams like the Magic never beat and/or compete with the likes of the Thunder or Pacers, who needs em right?

the thing is, the d league isn't just about getting called up the the NBA. your best D league player is probably a rotation guy at best. the D league is the most scouted pro league in the world. it helps fringe guys get in or back into the league and it lands higher paying jobs overseas for guys who aren't NBA players.

i personally know a dude who went from the trap to playing ball in the Czech republic. he literally had never been outside of dallas.

All of this. I know a few d league guys who've gotten some nice contracts overseas because of the D League. It's not just for the NBA.

Wot

The issue with the league IMO is not the amount of teams. It's the lack of great scouting and the over dependency of our basketball culture on overhyped "prodigies", which goes back beyond the NBA, and beyond college..

Instead of keep the Kings they should've let them contract.
Not to burst your bubble, but that wasn't exactly on the table

it happens in every sport though. guys aren't as good as we thought they'd be.

i don't follow baseball like that but do people want the Royals gone? were they asking for the pirates to be gone prior to last season?

If your team doesn't make it to at least the second round in a span of 10 years, an owner should be forced to sell the team

all baseball is boring so the difference between entertainment value in a good team and a bad team is minimal

 Every team can't be above .500, it's math.

A win for one team is a loss for another.

I mean true, but I feel as though that our culture could help minimize the amount of overhyped players by making them prove themselves on a professional level before entering the NBA.

An ideal situation for me would be to allow players to make the jump from high school to the pros, but for teams to use their own judgement on whether or not to send that player to the D League. That way, we can get a better look at how this player looks consistently against pro level talent. I also feel that in general, the NBA should do a much better job of embracing the D League and putting it to use. I wouldn't want it to rival the NBA, but it would benefit a lot of teams if the d league was more publicized, on a wider scale, and overall just was presented as the NBA's little brother that it cared for, not just some adopted little brother that is forgotten most of the time.

By embracing the D league more, it would improve its reputation and take away it's stigma to a degree, making it easier to send younger players straight to the d league (whether they are coming from HS or college) whom teams feel are not presently ready to contribute at an NBA level.

Lol ok, Boston would of lost their team, NYC would of lost their team, clippers would be gone, ...... Any other I'm missing?

This discussion is akin to complaining about All Star Weekend or the Dunk Contest while watching every minute of it
