Why so hell bent on Seattle getting a team?
Seattle should have a team but the Clippers aren't moving there.
Yeah, but why Seattle? Why not another city?
watch sonicsgate. they got robbed blind.

in a nutshell, the sale was contingent upon the new ownership group making a real effort to keep the team in seattle. the new owners were already emailing back and forth about taking the team to OKC. as soon as they got the team, they basically made KD unavailable to the media in an attempt to sour the fans/make them lose interest. then tried to get the fans to try and fork over all the money for a new arena, then just picked up and left.

all done in bad bad faith.
Sonics fans got screwed by Bennett and to a lesser extent their own local government; and the NBA/Stern used the situation to set the baseline for how the NBA would be moving forward with demands for local subsidies and getting new arenas built.

Damn shame, I'm worried the NBA is gonna keep Seattle as a looming threat for years, if not decades to come, sort of how the NFL is using LA.

i think they'll use it as a threat, but never actually do anything. 1) because i think they cities will cave in to any demands to keep their team. 2) if they move a team to LA, what's the threat for the next team

there's only so many "new" markets primed for a professional sports franchise

"The Oklahoma City Thunder strongly supports the decisive action taken today by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. Ours is a league of inclusion, tolerance, and fairness. The Thunder organization will continue to work to foster the tenets of diversity and respect, and build on that standard moving forward."

*except for lesbians in the WNBA.

I wonder if y'all would still be talking about Seattle if okc was trash

if you watched the documentary i think you'd agree. it's more principle than anything. it obviously helps that OKC is good to keep the matter at the forefront, but it was all bad business on the part of clay bennett. from the moment they entered negotiations, they had no intention of keeping the team there. the plan was always OKC.

if OKC wasnt as good, maybe it wouldnt be a topic on a national scale. but this is an every day thing for seattle fans.

Pure coincidence all the Costco Parking Lot Cryfest Rallies took place during the 2012 finals run.

it's more relevant on a national stage because OKC is good, but don't sit here and pretend like that's not an every day thing for seattle. they got screwed.
