For what it's worth, Russel by most accounts was 6'9 220...if you don't think that's undersized then...

about an inch taller than bird, bird is 6'9.

Russel 6'10, avg center in the NBA today is 6-9.5

Pic doesn't mean much. For all we know we could say Bird in that pic was actually 6'8.5 or something and Russell was 6'9.

Man like I said, by most accounts, Russell is 6'9. That's not me saying that, a simple google search will tell you that. It will also show you that homie's playing weight was 215-220...that is painfully thin for a five man. You combine that with his rather "limited" offensive arsenal, how do you come to the conclusion that he would "thrive?"

the fact tht Bill Russell and those celtics won 8 championships in a row really shows the complete lack of any type of competition and talent in tht day and age . so naw I don't think a 6'9 220 center in Bill Russell would ddominate in today's NBA . or any of those other guys for tht matter .

i find it crazy how centers up until the late 90's stayed healthy but centers today have glass knees .

I'm 21 too that **** ain't an excuse for what he just said, just cause you're young doesn't mean you can't be a historian of the game especially in 2013
lol the dude based his opinion on youtube videos highlights. Historian of the game ya right.

You old head historians kill meeee

So YouTube, despite the fact that it's actual video of what went on back then, is somehow an inacuarte way to digest history? Alright man

use your brain and TAKE THE L.

Bruh

1) Lebron isn't 6'9. He hasn't grown since he's been in the L and he was 6'8 coming in. I keep telling you trying to measure someone's height through a freaking picture will most likely lead to innacuracies (spell check) but you can even have that. Plently of 6'10 guys in the league right now that don't do anything.

2) He was 215 pounds and was limited offensively. Again I ask, how do you come to the conclusion that he would thrive and do extremely well? Name a center in the last 20 years who was that small and was a 20 and 10 guy?

lol watching video highlight on youtube won't certify you

Man I don't even know what the hell you're talking about anymore  YouTube won't certify me? Man I don't even...

Let me ask you...How different is watching a game on TV in the 70's and watching it on YouTube? Explain, i'm curious to hear this

Youtube video is just small clips. You watched 15 minutes of Bird and Russel and already have an idea of how they would do in today game hmmm. 15 years from now you would have similar kids claiming that Melo is better than Lebron base on youtube video highlights.

Bill Russel is the greatest defensive player, thats what made him great.

Ben Wallace was a pretty dominate defensive force at 6'9 so, was the best player on a championship, is going to the hall of fame. I really don't think its going to be a problem.

Alright guys enough with the hypotheticals, nobody wins.

Back to current NBA convos

Russel is listed at 6'10 on basketball reference, he's 6'10, you won't find a picture of where he's SMALLER than someone 6'10, because HE IS 6'10. take the l.

Rodman was pretty good at defense despite being 6-6, Ben Wallace was a dominate defensive force at 6'9 was the best player on a championship team, so why Bill Russel couldn't do it is beyond me.

Kyle Singler trick shots....

Ben Wallace averaged what, 10 points a game? If you think Russell would fair in the same light as Ben Wallace then okay, I can kind of see that. But compared to russell, Wallace was a physical specimen.

Sidenote, all this talk about freshmen, what about my sophomores? My brother spencer, Marcus Smart, and my favorite Jahii Carson. I had a hard time believing he would be able to translate to the NBA very well ( I still don't) but I see what guys like Zeke is doing in Sactown and i'm intrigued. What he's done in his two years at asu, especially that 40 piece on UNLV man, I don't know. He's a very good basketball player though. I'm rooting for him.

and I'm not a "old head", I just have common sense, and I know how basketball works, its amazing what you can do with those two things.

I really doubt the players from the past would have the ability to get to the mid-range and get off their shot. Their lack of athleticism and advance ball handling skill will stop that from happening. Then you factor in how most of them probably don't have nba range, I don't see how they would fair well in today's game.
