I think a lot of people say "Rudy's inefficient" because that's the way he's been portrayed by writers, especially ever since Hollinger took that Memphis job.

But that Grantland excerpt details exactly why he got that rep and why it's accurate.

He goes on to say that they contacted almost every team in the league who needed a wing player, and everyone other than Sacramento refused to even consider trading for Rudy.
did the Kings give up too much tho

 sort of srs question

Another quote on Rudy: "I know GMs now who wouldn't touch him for more than the midlevel exception."

Josh Smith is far better than Rudy.  He's a bad shooter who is good at other things.

You guys didn't really give up anything of value...  Other than the cap space, right?
Ya, I read someone basically say that the Kings are gambling that Rudy Gay will be better than anyone they could possibly sign during free agency... which IMO is a decent bet, because the Kings have never been able to sign any FA of significance

I mean personally I wouldn't want to add a Rudy Gay to a young team.  You guys want to develop young players now and next year.  Don't you want Cousins, Mclemore and Pick X to be getting shots and possessions, while learning ball movement?  I question the wisdom of adding a ballhog who is a known quantity to that equation.  Unless the coach is willing to really limit Rudy's minutes and be on him when things go wrong.

That would be my prime concern.  I think that with greatly reduced role and minutes Rudy could still contribute.  He's basically like a role player trying to be a #1 star.

But is Rudy going to be good enough that the Kings will end up decreasing their chances to land a top 3 pick in this year's draft? Probably not, but that was kind of a risk with this trade. If the Kings end up losing out on Jabari Parker because they traded for Rudy Gay, then it probably wasn't worth it. But they are in the West, so they'll be a lottery team regardless.

If they play Rudy large minutes, he is going to reduce their win total.  So in that sense it's a good tanking strategy.

What exactly makes people think Rudy Gay is going to help a team win?  All evidence is to the contrary.

Like it was said, adding Rudy is just going to encourage bad habits and increase frustration. You don't want that for young players. And you definitely don't want that with Demarcus Cousins.

I generally agree with you, but the Kings' wing players were pretty terrible before the trade. Although I'm not a fan of his, I'm not sure Rudy is so bad that's he's going produce less than John Salmons, etc.

Is rudy really a ballhog/trying to be a #1 star or was he forced into that role at toronto, him & derozan obviously had the ultimate green light with no type of system

The reason his fg% was low and he was taking a lot of shots was because Casey relied on him and Derozan to score the majority of our points in a very heavily isolated offensive system. The reason Toronto is 24th in the league in scoring isn't cause we don't have talent, it's cause Casey doesn't have an offensive system. He focuses on defense and lets our guys play isolation on offense which is why we struggle to score.

I think he's a hard working coach but it's time for him to go and find a coach that can balance offense and defense.

My concerns as well.  But i know for a fact Mike Malone is not going to let Rudy be the player Toronto was letting him be.  he is trying to establish a culture and a system and hes not for one second going to let Rudy think that he is the #1 option over DeMarcus

:Lol at rudy is gonna encourage bad habits based off of his short stint in toronto, dwayne casey is just a terrible coach, rudy is finally back to playing with a big man that can get his own shot :pimp:

Reading the comments in here about how the Kings could be worse with Gay, leads me to believe that not a lot of people have watched John Salmons play basketball

There's no way they're worse on the court. Depends on how you look at it salary wise since he's stuck with you for another year. He could be an expiring at the same time

Kings GM is on the radio right now, he says he isn't done dealing yet

but thats sort of stating the obvious

You are saying there is no way John Salmons is worse than Gay????   oh man, Toronto is in for a BIG surprise.

i hope they enjoy watching John Salmons dribbling the shot clock away only to turn the ball over or brick a mid range jumper (Shooting 35% this season)

-Patterson being a PF that just stands on the 3pt line and chucks 3s and makes like 1 out of 8.

-Vasquez getting burned by absolutely every player he tries to defend, thus breaking down the entire defense

-Chuck Hayes being the most out of shape player in the NBA, not even grabbing rebounds that bounce right at his face......
