^Vancouver is better than 95% of American cities.

One of the most beautiful cities in the world. FACTS

Never tank.

Losing begets more losing

It instills a culture of losers.

(i.e. bengals, browns, bills, lions, raiders, cardinals)
it is, but its also one of the most expensive cities in the world

a lot of people here drive down to washington state to do their shopping because its THAT much cheaper

smart teams tank (see san antonio spurs)

the teams you mentioned dont tank they're just bad

and tanking is more important in basketball than it is football

the only problem i have with tanking is that the other teams that are not the lakers are doing it this year

My pops worked in that free Canadian healthcare system and he has seen some straight up horror stories about the system :smh:

**** tanking. I would want my team to win regardless. This defeatist mentality is weak.

Raptors fans are such a depressing bunch.

Yep just look at all those great teams built by first round exits
Has to happen anyways. It's a process. Regardless of what you do you and who you draft, you aren't going to just go from tanking then win a title the next yr. Probably get a 1st or maybe 2nd rdrd exit, come back the next yr with a goal to get further, then again, and again keep building. At some point, you have to start going for it and aiming for ascension

toronto's best player this year (lowry) still might be traded, they have no top tier guy to build around. unless they tank and get lucky with a draft pick they are going no where in the near future

At least 2-3 bad years then you should aim to win.

The upside of this you get OKC
The downside of this you get Cleveland

overall the standard of living, kindness of people, fresh air, clean cities, lower crime rate make canada one of the best places on earth to live in. unless its a dream job i would never even consider moving to america.

but as an american pro athlete i can see why playing in a decent city in america is more appealing than living in toronto

How about the strategy of making smart trades/free agent signings along with solid drafting?

Also, you rarely see teams have success with the OKC model. There are not many teams that will get lucky enough to draft two superstars (a 3rd high level player if you include Harden) and another fringe all-star in Ibaka. Its just not realistic. A more realistic model is Indiana or Memphis. Both of those teams also built through the draft, but didn't end up with superstars. They made other moves to build a well balanced team as well.

Without signing David West, how good would Indiana would've been over the last few years? If Memphis never traded QRich for ZBo, where would that be? No Marc Gasol? The only players Memphis out right drafted was Conley and Rudy. There are other ways to build a team without having to simply just draft in the lottery every single year. That's how Cleveland messed up by being in the lottery way too long. They were fortunate enough to have the #1 pick and #4 pick in 2011, they should've looked for other options after that instead of looking for another high draft pick. Smart management would've traded down to acquire an additional asset, THEN draft Waiters. There's so much more than just simply losing and using the OKC model

It sucks for Toronto right now. They are about to be in the playoffs when they need a lottery pick. If possible, they could use one of their younger assets to acquire a top 10 pick (but unlikely). They need at least one solid lottery pick to pair with Jonas, Ross, Amir and whoever. Then, find a way to get a better asset for Lowry/Derozan.

yeah, its also really hard to build a team ONLY through the draft

but to build a championship team you need BOTH good drafting and smart trading/free agent signings

bottom line is to win a championship you need to get a great player from the draft, how you choose to build around that guy is up to the team

you have to draft well period, i don't care if you tank or wahtever you start by drafting well, and you take advantage of free agency if deals are available, but if you HAVE to draft well unless you ARE A NAME franchise.

they drafted poorly, they were given three high draft picks and they made three CATASTROPHICALLY bad decisions.

even if you are a big market franchise, the lakers were able to win 5 chips in the past 15 years because they drafted kobe, they won 5 in the 80s because they drafted magic, the only time in recent memory the knicks have been actual contenders is when they build around ewing who they drafted. boston built around larry bird, then they won recently by using draft picks as assets and trading them for KG/ray and teamed them up with paul pierce who they drafted. the bulls drafted MJ and won 6, spurs drafted duncan and won 4. heat drafted wade and got 1 then because of wade they were able to convince lebron and bosh to come over and get two more.

big market, small market it doesnt matter, you cant win a championship without using the draft
