People forget the Kobe haterz argument that "Kobe ride shaq to 3 rings = he only has 2" because the only way to legit win a ring you have to carry your team, thus only about 10 guys have ever won rings.

It's ridiculous. Youre on a championship team, you won, you got a ring. period. You're not gonna take luke Walton's rings away from the books

That said, I don't think he leaves either. One last push in the next 2 years and that's it.

I actually agree though.

I think 5 rings is good for Kobe's legacy

Even if he got another one or two.....he's still not passing Jordan

6 rings undefeated > Kobe 5 rings with Finals losses, Magic's 5 rings with Finals losses, Shaqs 4 rings with Finals losses or Lebrons however many rings with Finals losses.

I don't. "It's a common opinion" implies that it isn't mine. He worked for those rings, and they didn't fall into his lap (though if he would've won in 2011 it would have.)

I do think that he had to do less than Jordan/Kobe did to get his championships though. By "do less" I mean he didn't need to maintain a constant presence and impact on games every single night. He could seriously have a 15 or less point game with mediocre stats and still win playoff games, and actually I think he has. Jordan/Kobe wouldn't be able pull that off successfully and especially not on multiple occasions.
I pretty much said he worked to get those rings and I personally believe they're rightfully his. The second part is just a comparison though as far as what Jordan/Kobe needed to do and what he needed to do in order to get them.

LOL @ "he doesn't really have any rings because he played with 2 other future HOFers"

some of yall should check the rosters for the bird celtics and magic's lakers, then come back to the discussion. or don't come back, i think that would be better for everyone

i never understood why "6 rings undefeated" is such a big deal

like how is going 6/6 in the finals better than going 6/8?

I mean to never lose when the stakes are the highest is sort of impressive.

Is it the end all, be all in determining someone's greatness? Definitely not.

The first part you're referring to lebron right? I agree with you. And I agree with your second point. I don't see any difference in lebron with wade and bosh and Kobe with shaq. They were all the cores of their teams and earned their rings. It's not like we're talking about Adam Morrison in a suit here

so in a 8 year span its better to win 6 championships and lose in the 2nd round twice than it is to get to the finals 8 times and win 6 of them?

how is it better for someones legacy to NOT make the finals?

always thought kareem's 6/10 finals is way more impressive than jordan's 6/6

making the finals last year and being 4/5 is better for duncan's legacy than if he had lost in the first round again and kept is perfect 4/4

***** wtf are you talking about? The only person not making sense is you

Bravelude asked if Lin was trash. I said he was. Then you said some **** about this season like it ******* matters. I said it doesn't cuz we're talking about Lin on the knicks and now you're asking me if I thought he was some all star caliber player? WHAT?

This is why you should read before responding. He said Lin was Melo's help. I said Lin was trash with melo and only good this season and linsanity hype. Meaning he is not any help.

I swear some dudes are just slow as hell.
Why don't you follow your own advice and go back and read the sequence of posts that brought us here. Then after you've done that and realized YOU started an argument with me over something we both agree on, you can feel free to come back and say, "My bad" or simply not respond out of stubbornness. Either way I don't really care. I'm done with you.

Basically if a player have more finals appearances it's more impressive to you. So if LeBron goes 5 out of 9 in the finals will that be more impressive than Jordan's 6-6 record? I'm curious

Well it's not a right or wrong answer.. it's about what one finds more impressive, that's pretty subjective. But you're a Lakers fan, so I'm assuming you're biased when it comes to finding Kareem's more impressive than Jordan's or not getting why going 6 for 6 in the Finals is impressive.

no, 5 < 6

but if they have the same amount of championships, there is no reason to think that 6/6 is better than 6/9

why is it worse to make the finals but lose in 3 of those years than it is to not make the finals at all

and dont give me that "everytime it mattered he got it done" bs, every round of the playoffs matter

the way duncan & co lost...you really beileve what u typed? the way bron & co lost to dirk ...you dont think he wished that never happened ...

And the way today is going I'm going to guess this will be a rough day in this thread. No games on, already talking about players "earning" or "not earning" rings because they played with other great players

Sometimes it's okay if we don't argue just to argue in here

nothing to do with me being a lakers fan, i wasnt alive to see kareem so im just going off what i have read about him and his career.

my favorite player that i have never seen play is larry bird
