This is what I was about to say ,people need to stop saying "Austin Rivers sucks lol".. like any young player, once he started getting minutes he improved..

He is quick and has handles, there are a lot of decent guards who were worse than Rivers at 21.

Wall is killing in the pick and roll this year, watch games my friend.

Rivers shot 35% in Feb.

7 points per game and 19 minutes per. for the month of Feb.

I mean, the one upside is that he's still young. Volume scorers/shooters are a dime a dozen in basketball though. With him being undersized it just makes the odds of him sticking around even less.
He's not just a volume scorer though, that's the thing. Rivers can handle the ball and pass, and that side of his game is coming along even if the scoring is taking a bit longer.

People watched his HS mixtapes and thought he was supposed to be the next great 20+ppg scorer, and they're just reading his boxscores thinking he's a failure. But NO is using him as a PG and his improvements in that area don't necessarily show in the boxscores.

In reality people should be more worried about someone like Ben McLemore, because scoring/shooting is the only ability he has, and he's not even doing that so far.

I don't think Durant needs anything to validate how great he is. There are so many other things that have to happen besides him playing well for OKC to win a title.

Of course to the media/arm chair analysts it matters but a championship is always more about an organization rather than a player.

He can handle and pass? I don't know how good he does those things but when I watch him, I wouldn't feel comfortable if he were my primary backup point guard.

i once thought brooks had talent and would show it if he got playing time.....but c'mon man, that last sequence on offense was laughable.

He does have great handle, and the Pelicans are using him as a PG which will help his skills. He could be an Aaron Brooks type player

I'm not a huge Austin Rivers stan or anything, but for a 21-year old guard he doesn't strike me as someone who completely sucks and will wash out of the league. I could easily see him having a Randy Foye, Aaron Brooks type career for 10 years. I could also see him being a complete bust if he doesn't have the dedication and never improves, who knows

But if you (or any other heat/lebron fan) are happy about him continuing to play when up by 19 points on the bobcats, then I don't know what to tell you
You're reaching pretty poorly. A 19 point lead to start the fourth is hardly insurmountable.

If CHA starts the quarter with 2 threes back to back it's a 13 point game with 11 mins left.

I don't fault Spo for continuing to play Bron. I would not have faulted Brooks for playing KD.

I actually expected Bron (& KD too if it was any other team) to keep playing, not because of stat padding, but because CHA could've easily gotten within 7-8 points

Well in reference to Rivers I do see improvement. He's finishing a bit better, looks a bit more confident on the floor, and overall just looks more like an NBA player.

However, I feel like his biggest hinderances right now are the fact that he can't dribble with his left, and can't shoot at all, let alone shoot on the move. That's a problem considering his undersized stature. Right now, he's either coming off screens and passing or going all the way to the hoop throwing up caca (as of lately he's been finishing though...relatively speaking). No shooting off the dribble, and due to his form I don't know if he'll ever be able to do that.

I wouldn't mind if he was my team's back up pg but I think his lack of shooting won't allow him to become a full time starter. He is super quick off the bounce though.

Withey damn

Edit yea Rivers made it hard to defend him with that sequence

Exactly, Charlotte chipped away at the lead and cut it to 15 with 6 minutes left and 13 a minute later. I can't believe people are actually making a big deal out of this. (Actually scratch that, I can believe it.)
