Hammond does a pretty good job drafting (Jennings, Sanders, Henson, Alphabet).

He is just incredibly irresponsible on the free agent market.

Move Ilyasova. Greek Freak, Henson, Sanders is one of the best young front courts in basketball along with Dre and Monroe in Detroit.

They need a premier guard badly. An Exum or Smart.

I know this feel all too well. I wasnt even trying to deal with that on Saturday, definitely left my car in Newark and came back from NYC to Newark Penn and then drove home. It was crazy cold up there last week :x

Bulls are at $63.819mil with a non-guaranteed of Erik Murphy next year.

Amnestying Boozer gets them to $47.019mil

They have the Bobcats pick, their first, and their second. Currently 14th, 18th, and 48th. That's about $3.5mil. So they are at $50.519mil, with 10 guys on the roster.


As good as I think Taj is, Bulls have to trade him. If they had their second scoring option already in place, then no doubt you keep him. But having Taj making what he makes when half the cap is taken up by Rose & Noah makes it tough to keep pieces currently in place, and add that 1st or 2nd option for a few years.

They'd have to comprise a 3 team trade, take back a guard (because let's face it, they are anemic on the bench with guards. Rather than screwing themselves and paying DJ Augustin more than he's worth this offseason, you have to let him go). If the Bulls can take back $3mil in salary and a future second rounder for Taj, maybe even throw in Mirotic's rights to change it to a future first rounder. They'll be at $45.519 with 10 players.

That allows Melo to take about $17mil (Better situation, better chance at winning with Bulls. Making anything over $17mil first year for Melo will really hurt his chances at a title). Even if he wants more, the Bulls could always dump Dunlevy, who wouldn't play very often if Melo is there, which could get them up to about $19mil

At that point, you have the full Mid-Level to go after someone to make your bench. If you are able to get a first rounder for Taj and Mirotic's rights, they could end up having a draft with 4 1st round picks in 2015 (Sacramento, Cleveland, their own, if they get lucky in a Taj trade)


Bulls are his only option to legitimately win a title (that we know of right now). Lakers don't want to pay him, and by the time he'll wait for the Knicks to put together a championship team, his contract will be over.

Thats my problem, look at the left over roster......its a shell of the team we have now....i dont think its enough to win

Noah is untouchable.
DJ played himself to a nice lil contract we may not be able to afford.
Taj is the only viable option. He has value, and his contract isn't so bad that other teams won't take it.

Preface: Melo has played his heart out this season and I enjoy watching his effortless scoring. 62 at the Garden, 5 games with 40+ points this season, etc.

However, even if Melo wants to play in Chicago...is he the right fit for Thibs and the Bulls? I wonder if he'll buy in defensively and also accept the team mantra and philosophy of hustle and sharing the ball.

Rose - Snell - Butler - Gibson - Noah

Mirotic to go with your two first-rounders. Can go BPA, someone like LaVine with high upside as insurance for Rose. The other pick goes to a rim protector like Trez or WCS to spell Noah. Both prospects will be ready to defend, rebound, and block shots.

You don't have enough to win now, even with Rose.

You have a pick as a starter at the 4.

Then whatever Guard you get from trading Taj.

Snell.

Have the full MLE ($5mil) to go after a 6th man.

Also with multiple picks, you could always turn that into a vet.
