there are at most 5 coaches that i see as a clear upgrade over dantoni (thibs is not one of them).

list of guys who have all played better under dantoni: nash, felton, steve blake, *insert entire 2014 lakers roster here*, a bunch of suns players

thibs has done a great job this year but its not anything too special

Thibs does a great job EVERY year no matter who he has suited up. This is a WELL coached team, which you can easily tell with how they play.

how is it not comparable?

Because Casey's record is 110-160 over 4 seasons? Whereas Thibs has been coaching the same amount of time and is 192-101?

what does that have to do with this season?

pop threw away a free ring last year because he didnt have duncan in but no one talks about that because hes seen as a good coach.

we have always had problems defending the pick and roll, phil was never able to get fisher + pau to stop it and pgs always destroyed us. fans blamed fisher for being a bad defender because phil is seen as a good coach

we cant defend a pick and roll with even slower kendall marhsall and even older pau gasol but fans want to blame it on dantoni because dantoni is seen as a bad defensive coach

when it comes to the way fans view coaches there is always a huge double standard

I've seen Pop get drilled for not having Duncan in last year. You're right, it depends on player ability too but at the same time D'Antoni was never known for his defensive schemes. Every coach has a deficiency, but bottom line is when you're winning consistently it's hard to fault the coach.
