I give the edge to Tim, but there really isn't a gigantic difference between the two.

Unless you count the sort if intangible quality Duncan has with leadership and willingness to be coached. But then again he has a top 3 all time coach.

It likely a was but basketball fans always want a a definitive answer, but really you are splitting hairs.

Duncan was a more well-rounded player, a winner, and overall had better players around him. One of the best coaches of all time, and three Hall-of-Famers.

Dirk never really played with a Hall of Famer in their primes. Kidd and Nash are the two best players he played with. Nash excelled his game when he left Dallas, and Kidd was a shell of his NJN self.

Dirk is absolutely the more dominant scorer though. Dirk will likely get to Top 6 All-Time Scoring.

At the end of the year, he’ll be Top-10 (Given he scores 16 PPG the rest of the year).

He’s already stated he wants to play at least two more. If he averages 15 PPG in the next two years, playing 75 games each year, he’ll sit at 28,962 points. That is ahead of Shaq, at sixth in NBA scoring. Getting into Top-5 territory would mean ridiculous efficiency and volume given his age, which I don't see. He'd need three seasons averaging 20+ each year with no games missed to enter that, and I personally don't see it.

I have a hard time thinking that KG with Pop, David, then Manu and Parker wouldn't be just as successful if not moreso.

KG's defense in his prime was bucket to 3 point line, with long arms, quick feet and tenacity. Him and David and Bowen, under Pop?

The one thing KG always had that hindered him was his hot potato ways come the final 2 minutes, and that's where Duncan did stand out. But maybe Pop could have brought that out of KG, iono.

Aren't these hypothetical situations your speciality?

Ultimately KG did what he did where he did it, and TD did what he did where he did it. Once you start comparing players by comparing made up scenarios rather than what actually happened, it just gets silly.

It's possible. I will say for the sake of argument there's no way KG would have impacted the 98-99 Spurs like Tim coming out of high school. Duncan benefitted greatly going to Wake and was a better player coming out. It's all a what if though so there's no right or wrong answer. Feel free to disagree.

Btw sorry Suns fans. I know your in a playoff race but we need a win tonight after that 1-3 west coast trip. Smh

KG all the tools none of the heart. Big guy on campus, screaming all that **** was just a way to fool people that he wasn't shook when the games got down to the wire.

No surprise the team he went farthest with had big balls Cassell taking those shots for him and when Sam got injured, they lost to a falling apart at the seems Lakers squad. Even look at them nowadays, Garnett is washed and Duncan is still chugging along throwing up double-doubles, one of the best centers in the league.

It's not splitting hairs. Talent wise it might be a wash but Duncan was clearly the better player.

I think if you put TD on the Lakers with Shaq instead of Kobe, they win more than 5 chips. Think about it- most dominant front court of all time, with Phil, plus they never break up because Tim's personality allows him to get along with Shaq's ego.

Therefore TD is better than Kobe.

Am I doing this right?

No, you're missing the logic part. Like saying Chris Paul and John Stockton would be the best backcourt ever, when really it wouldn't be very good.

Shaq and Tim would clog each other's space, make it easy for the defense to simply stuff bodies in the paint and clutter everything up.

But that isn't what you were going for, I know.

If you put tmac on the Lakers they still win the same amount of championships

TMAC = Kobe?

Ahhh damn, I don't quite have your skill at making up imaginary scenarios and then drawing real-life conclusions from them.

Indeed

.  T-Mac is pretty much Kobe.

Ya.....

Cassell took soooo many shots in the 17 games he played ....

in the 2008 season.........

when Big Balls Sam joined the Celts midseason.......

when they lost the finals to the Lakers that year........

Sam Cassell led the Celtics that year.............

Cassell was killing it that season.  I do think failing to beat the Lakers that season reflects negatively on KG's legacy.

im sure he meant on those T Wolves teams

but even  with Boston he was lucky to have Paul and ray wanting to be the man in the 4th QTR like on his best wolves teams Sprewell and Cassel wanted to be the man in the 4th.

Dirk had a good game vs the Thunder but come on. There not beating anyone in the playoffs.

Also to compare Dirk or KG to Duncan is laughable. Duncan is a all time top 10 player. Dirk and KG aren't in that class.
Im not even talking about the game last night. I am saying with the team experience. Everyone was counting Dallas out in 2011 and I am not saying they will win the Ship. But I do think a lot of the players on the roster has a chip on their shoulder. Will Westbrook be 100 percent during playoffs any way?

They have the Spurs first as of right now. That experience won't do them any good. If they played LAC, Portland, GS or Houston I'd agree. Thunder and Spurs are just better. Now if Dallas got to the finals this year and won that changes the whole Dirk conversation.

Well the year they won the Thunder, Memphis, Spurs and Lakers were all "just better."

The Dirk conversation doesn't need to be changed.  He already had one of the greatest individual playoff runs in the last decade plus.  His legacy is cemented.
