And then the Lakers will get a top 3 pick, draft their future franchise superstar, and that quote will be brought up all the time.

There's a difference between being terrible when you're supposed to be good... and just not having the talent and sucking.

As a Knicks fan, I'd absolutely switch places with Lakers fans this year. Having a high draft pick >>>>>>>>>>>> "fighting" for the 8th spot in the East :smh:

and then we paid jeremy lin the same thing dragic got :x

i know morey is a good GM, but imo he's so overrated. if not for the commissioner and #BasketballReasons, morey would have successfully facilitated a trade getting us pau gasol and helping chris paul get to the lakers. after he got pau, it's widely documented he wanted to pair him with Nene. in all honesty, he kind of lucked into howard and harden

He's overrated because he's friends with Bill Simmons and known as an analytics type, he did luck into Howard and harden

I think "lucking into Howard and Harden" is a bit overboard.

Dude did a great job of keeping the team competitive while accumulating assets and maintaining flexibility.

True, I just hate even people blatantly forget about how adamant he was on getting pau nene.

He did trade vasillis spanoulis to get Luis scola, and turned rafer Alston into Kyle Lowry

Bron is sick about that Miguel Cabrera contract, he's about to be 30 and he should be getting that same type of money.

KD too.
I understand, yet at the same time dont understand statements like this.

Lebron is banking from his pay and all his endorsements, he could afford to and live like a king for the rest of his life with the same amount hes getting paid now.

No you're right, it is overboard.  He deserves props for having his team be in a position to make those moves when the opportunity came around.  And they were great moves.

That said, some members of the sports media have been speaking of him for years as a top-tier GM when he was *this* close to fielding a 9th seed level team every year—if Stern allows the Pau trade to go throw, or if the Thunder don't make that mistake, or w/e.

And obviously if his analytics told him that Jeremy Lin was better than Goran Dragic....  they were wrong.

if there was no salary cap in the nba, the league would be even worse. owners dont even want to spend and even now, only a handful of good teams. worse parity out of the major sports.

besides, lbj makes so much with endorsements what is there to complain

It's just about being paid relative to your value, Lebron only makes all that money off of endorsements because of how great he is. The money that he has generated for the Cavs and Heat is astronomical compared to his 19 mill a year salary, not even factoring in his on court value. The Heat were actually LOSING money before he got there. He boosted the Cavs value by over 200 million dollars in his time there, not to mention what he did for the whole economy of the city. If you're talking about his endorsements you're missing the point, that has nothing to do with what he should be getting paid by his team/NBA. There probably isn't a more valuable athlete in all of sports. To the average person it may seem like he's making more than enough but he's actually severely underpaid.

KD is in a similar boat which will only get bigger as his career goes on and he continues to be historically great. He and Westbrook have already brought OKC from being worth 325 million in 07 to around 600 million today, yet are getting paid 19 mill a year.

Baseball players are the only ones getting paid their true value which is why when A-Rod was the best player in the game he got two 250 million dollar contracts. Don't tell me there won't be parity without a salary cap because there already isn't and baseball is doing just fine without one even the small market teams.

Bottom line, guys like Bron/KD should be getting 75 million. The new CBA screwed the players in a league where star players are everything. The players really need a leader to change all of this **** because they're getting exploited even though they are millionaires.

exactly especially at the Lebron endorsements.

you think Miggy has endorsements? he does but they dont pay anywhere even close to what lebron gets paid for a single endorsement

hes got it made and doesnt need a 30 mill a year contract. no need for this nonsense, nba isnt going to no salary cap unless it doubles its profits which it wont.

MLB makes almost 9 billion a year while nba makes 4 billion.

this. the nba doesnt make that much money. lbj wants those big contracts, be prepared to play 150+ regular season gm and have teams in china and europe.

MLB plays twice as many games tho. It's not about him being rich or getting endorsement money, it's about the principle of getting paid severely less than your value to a company and brand

Love seeing the Lakers like this. That Humble pie being served and served cold

As a laker fan it's still hard to be humbled , yeah we suck right now but we've had a run most teams could only dream of and that's only speaking from 2000 to now.

It's better to have loved and lost than to never sniff the nba finals in your lifetime

If the league had no cap & no max contract, role player's salaries would plummet

On the other hand, superstars would. be sooooo expensive that it would eliminate most of this "big 3" stuff that some fans dislike.

The Lakers have that multi billion dollar tv deal so they could possibly afford 2 superstars though. Knicks could as well.

If Reinsdorf wanted to, he could do it as well

Its not about them playing more games, they are the more popular brand by a large margin IMO the amount of fans, merchandise, etc etc. that league makes big money and still would even if they played a little less games. its a gold mine.

A Rod got two 250 million dollar deals in his prime? Sheesh.

Yeah Lebron and KD, Michael Jordan when he was playing, Kobe, Allen Iverson, these are guys who are criminally underpaid, relative to the revenue they bring to their teams on and off the court.

The thing is... If the sport was capped but no max contracts lebron would be making 60 million a year and there would be no money for a surrounding cast and he would lose and cry about that. It's a give and take. I think he's doing okay.

MLB easily has the best union but they also play in bigger stadiums with more games.

If you want athletes to get paid their true worth then you need to have no cap and no max contracts. If you aren't willing to advocate for that then be quiet.

Did I just read Daryl Morey slander?

Y'all praised the hell of out of him every offseason...I hope ****** ain't turning on him now.

The "basketball reasons" thing is on point but that doesn't fit the narrative on ol' boy so wamp wamp.

But where is the revenue coming from? E
I see baseball on ESPN the stadium is empty for like 70 percent of the season.
