Two calls that stick out in recent memory:

You know I love PG24, but that Shump foul was 50/50. I'm okay if you don't call that ticky tack, touch foul.

There was contact when Melo pulled a shot to close the game last night. There's a hack that can be called there. That Kobe or Bron would usually get in all honesty.

Couple observations from NYK/WSH that probably have already been touched upon.

Melo doesn't get superstar calls in the Garden like Kobe or Bron. That's a fact, whether you like Melo or not.

Woody should have called a timeout in hindsight. But the ball was in Melo's hands and he gambled.

Beno was begging for help. Beal is becoming an elite NBA scorer. Has the jump shot and showing recognition on when to dribble drive.

MWP should have been in the game last possession. And he deserves more than 3 minutes in the rotation on perimeter defense alone.

Shump on Wall I'm perfectly okay with.

NYK fans are ridiculously mercurial with their judgement of JR Swish.

Melo is not a superstar like Kobe or Bron. Why should he get the calls they do?

superstars get the calls, melo isnt up there. cant put melo and lebron/kobe in the same sentence
also, hard to officiate melo bc he initiates a lot of the contact.

He scores at will. I question his efficiency and he can be streaky, but only KD scores easier.

what? Melo is a superstar on name recognition and stats alone. He's the best player on one the most well known sports franchises in the world who also led the league in scoring last year. Are there guys I'd pick to have over him on my team? Sure but if he wasn't a superstar he wouldn't get the crazy contract offers he will get this summer.

I don't even like Melo that much but that statement was asinine.

I'm baffled myself.

Fair if you say a team with Melo may never win a championship. But he's still a superstar and elite scorer. Easily a top-12 NBA player.

The best comparison for me is Melo is basically Gilbert Arenas.

Great stats, big contracts, nothing to show for it.

The term "Superstar" has been used too loosely these days, but Camelo is a Superstar off of play and marketability. A guy who had the highest selling jersey in the league last year is a superstar. Thats a powerful name.

But I get what hes saying. He wasnt saying that Carmelo isnt a superstar, but rahter hes never been one to the degree that Kobe and LeBron were/are.

soychulo: That's not a strong comparison, and I'm a Zona guy. Hibachi had three elite years in his prime with the Wiz. Four if you're generous.

Melo has been an elite scorer for over a decade. 20+ PPG for like 11 seasons.

Say he doesn't play winning basketball. Say you won't win a championship with him. Fine.

But Melo's still a NBA superstar. He plays at the Mecca of basketball. Jersey sells. He's recognizable from Syracuse to Denver to New York.

This will prove it. PG24 is not yet a superstar despite my desire for him to be. He's a great NBA player. Not elite, not a superstar yet.

Melo is just a gun, plain and simple. Soft and selfish. But he can score. He is Glenn Robinson.

he's famous but he doesnt play basketball at a superstar level IMO at least not consistently

Superstars are often manufactured, right or not. It's a combination of play on the court, marketing/advertising, location, name recognition.
