ESPN Removes Jeff Van Gundy From Knicks-Bulls Broadcast
Dec 11, 2013 3:49 PM EST

In a late change, Jeff Van Gundy has been removed from ESPN's broadcast of the New York Knicks versus Chicago Bulls game on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

Van Gundy was assigned to announce the game with Mike Tirico.

“We’re always reexamining our commentating assignments,” ESPN spokesman Ben Cafardo said.

Van Gundy reportedly would be considered by the Knicks to replace Mike Woodson, but the former coach said recently that he "felt badly" for Woodson to deal with speculation about his job status.

“He never wants to be a distraction,” a Van Gundy friend said Wednesday. “He’s very sensitive about current coaches.”

Wouldn't surprise me if JVG asked off the broadcast out of respect and for conflict of interest with his name linked to NYK. He's mindful, sensitive, careful with current HC.

Woody is fortunate and biding time, patience from Dolan because the Atlantic Division is so bad. Any of the five teams can win it, except for Toronto now in rebuild mode. Blowout loss to Boston at the Garden (I believe third worst home loss in franchise history). They never win in the orange alternates, time to scrap those unis. Another L to Cleveland. Every game becomes a must-win, starting with Chicago.

Friction with Shump. Rumors that Woody lost the locker room. Chandler returning soon.

Dolan's private favorite candidate is Thibs. Good luck prying him from Chicago. I don't see the style fitting.

RCK: Michael Fassbender > Johnny Depp. Approach me, bro.

Yeah, it's probably just this. Unfortunately he is actually fueling the speculation.

Like it was said JVG left the Knicks on bad terms. Hiring Allan Houston just seems like the Knick way.

Allan Houston has no experience as a coach at any level though, all he's been is an assistant to a not so good GM.

We see how Kidd in BK is working, they really wanna give that a shot? Not to mention I just think Allan Houston is Murphy's Law with the Knicks organization.

Pat Ewing was a name floated. Been an assistant for over 10 years now paying his dues. Subbed in the interim for Clifford.

I'm not saying it makes sense, that's just the angle these reports seem to be leaning towards. The Knicks have probably already convinced themselves he won't be another Jason Kidd based on some trivial factoid anyway

I like hiring Ewing way more than Houston but Houston is already in the loop so I think he gets the look first like Senor stated.

Iggy in Philly more often than not used to play all 82 games at around 40 minutes a night while guarding the other team's best player every night and scoring 17-20 points with 5-6 boards and 5-6 dimes. To say he was "very disappointing" means that expectations were never in the right place to begin with. He's not LeBron James.
He was darn near 94 pippen-like in Philly.

He is the perfect 3rd option. He knows his role and does it well. GS is perfect for him. Bogut and him clean up Curry,Klay & lee defensive errors.

all this jvg to ny. better chance he goes back to houston than to ny. knicks should be looking at svg, but im not sure if that's a dolan type of guy. i could see john cal flirt with them

Pat Ewing's number one problem, and the reason I believe he doesn't get coaching calls, is he lacks presence of any sort. Not authoritative, not intelligent, not motivational, not calculated, nothing. And I think that's how others view him too. Assistant coach sure, but I don't want him anywhere near the Knicks as head coach.

Please do not compare kidd to any other coach anywhere ever. Kidd should be spending hrs drawing up plays for YMCA children's leagues. It's his first year blah blah blah.... Save all that. Dude has already dug himself a hole

yes, lets judge Jason Kidd as a head coach, 20 games in with a pretty bad roster, and the only good players on the roster have been hurt basically the whole year. That makes sense.
