Wait so the dude who lead the league damn near every year hes been in the NBA isnt an elite rebounder now?

Have yall ever seen basketball before?

So if he's a scrub, and guys like gasol, hibbert, lopez are skilled players, why don't they shoot higher percentages? You would think with their superior offensive arsenals they'd do better than they are now.

You can get caught up in all the narratives, I'll take the numbers. With or without post moves, he scores and rebounds better than most of his peers.
to each his own, wonder if you will be saying the same things when he cries his way off your team

Man listen...these fools were out here saying Dwight Howard sucks...

Not overrated. Not Overpaid. They said he sucks

Y'all the type (Not you Reggie) to probably say Blake Griffin is terrible and only dunks and ignore 23 12 and 4 from him.

Lopez > Dwight though.

Hell Lopez is the most polished center in the league offensively.

He can put his back to the basketball and shoot from anywhere inside the arc.
Tough call. Lopez didn't even average 7 rebounds a game last season. 7 rebounds. And the season before he broke his foot, he averaged 6. How is that even possible.

This is true. There are quite a few bigs better than Dwight. Cousins, Davis, Love, Griffin, All probably are better than Howard. He's looking overrated but at the same time I don't want to write Howard off yet. He was hurt last year and this year is only 6, 7 games old.

My point being, y'all get so enamored by little things and lose track of the big picture. Is Dwight a great offensive player? No. His offensive output is better than most of his peers though.

Disliking his game is fine. Saying he sucks because he doesn't live up to your fantasy expectations is foolish.

Dwight been the same player his whole career, hes hyped up because he came up during the time the center position started to dissappear so everybody unanimously handed him the torch and now that the center position is getting competitive again hes looking avg

Glad to see the skilled big men putting their feet down and saying we aren't dead yet

If anything, it seems like Howard just lacks the IQ that some of the other bigs have. Besides being extra robotic, if he had exceptional IQ he could still make use of his limited post ability

Basically someone said he sucks and should be averaging 20/20. Another said 25/15. Plenty say he sucks, which is just silly.

The problem is Blake / Love / even AD to an extent are 4s.

Dwight is a 5, I would only compare him to other 5s / traditional centers.
thing is these days when a bigman is skilled and can shoot they end up being 4s. look at lamarcus, he could be one of the best centers in the league but he refuses to play the position because a player with his skillset has more freedom being able to post up AND shoot the midrange. not saying that centers never get a chance to shoot jumpshots but natually a PF gets to play in more places other than the post. AD/Duncan/KG/Lamarcus could easily be full time centers but due to their skillset they play the PF spot

if dwight could play with the tyson chandler mentality he would be worth his contract
Explain ?
glue guy, plays hard d, takes what's given on offense (if he only took tyson chandler shots he would have no problem shooting 70%)

i accept that his game has weaknesses, the reason his teams will never do well is because he thinks he's a #1 option and hes just an all around bad teammate along with being a coach killer

take all those personality traits away and he can be a top 5 nba player just off his defensive abilities alone

Idk what it is, theirs no reason you spend all that time with hakeem and still dont atleast have a go to post move, it looks like hes scared to just say f*** it and just do something hakeem taught him even though hes not fully comfortable doing it and he might mess up or not exactly do it how hakeem does

Explain ?

If he was serious about basketball

Dwight doesn't suck. He's just a chronic underachiever who could be so much more. Dude plays like he could give a damb less bout winning or losing as long as he gets his touches and his paycheck.

He's 10 years deep in the league and still has a non-existent offensive game. Every great center had a go-to move or spot that they're known for. What does Dwight have?

like i said, it comes down to y'all having unrealistic expectations. 18/13 per game isn't bad for a player's career.
yeah its actually pretty good for a center, but those are not #1 option numbers, those are not max contract numbers

outside of the 18/13 and the shot contesting there are no other positives, history of coach issues, crying about not getting touches, talking behind teammates backs instead of confronting them like a leader, losing his team games in the 4th due to his ft shooting while having a ego too big to let the coach sit him down, turning down the help of nba legends, having 0 post moves, feeling entitled to being the franchise player when there is someone better than him on the team, the list goes on.

the one lakers game i went to last season i watched guys like kobe/nash going through their motions and taking shots that they would take in game during shoot around while dwight was throwing our players off by throwing half court shots with ebanks

the guy is just a waste of a well built human being

When he was healthy, he can anchor an entire team's defense. If he can get healthy again, I'm sure he'll continue to do so at a high level. You can't dismiss what Dwight did defensively with just "shot contesting". 18/13 with his defense is absolutely max contract numbers.

People have to move on with Dwight. Stop asking him to be someone he isn't. There's no rule that says he HAS to be better than he is. Why can't he just be a great defensive center and give you 20 a game with limited offense? Why does he HAVE to be better? Deal with it, this is who he is. Let it go, Laker fans

have said that he can be a top 5 player just off his defense. the only thing holding him back is his own idiot self, expecting to be a leader without having any leadership abilities will get you nowhere

I agree. I just feel like the lines are kind of blurred between what's a 4 and a 5 nowadays because people want him to be like Hakeem, McCale, and Patrick ewing, etc. and IMO their skill sets are that of a 4 man in today's game and in Hakeem's case, he was undersized for the position. So really, people want dwight to be more a 4 than a traditional 5.

If that's 'who he is' as far as only averaging 18/13 then fine.

But there is no excuse for him not being able to at least shoot 60-70% from the line. And there is no excuse for him to be turning the ball over 3 times per game. Howard leads all F/C in turnovers year after year, look it up. And he's well on his way to doing it again this season. He's averaging more turnovers than Chris Paul who touches the ball 100+ times per game. Dwight gets maybe 10-15 touches and fumbles 20% of them away to the other team. But that's just "who he is" right? He shouldn't improve on that?

Most people aren't asking him to be Shaq or Hakeem. At this point, most people just expect him to not be a liability to his team in key situations. Because right now he is.
