Someone want to break down this game ending Knicks play for those who missed it?

Sounds like I should've switched to MSG.
Beal drove in for a wide open layup to put the Wiz up 1 with 6 seconds left, there was no help defense whatsoever, then Woodson didn't call a TO and advance the ball, they inbounded it and Melo slowly walked the ball up the court and took a terrible running three.
This does not put everything into proper perspective how bad that series was. Here's how everything went wrong:

-Beno Udrih goes 1 of 2 at the line leaving the Knicks up one point with like 15 seconds to go. Wiz call timeout and advance the ball.

-Woodson, the idiot he is, does not put in his best defenders. He keeps Udrih in instead of MWP or at worst THJr.

-Wizards run a simple motion on the inbounds that leaves Udrih on Beal.

-Beal seeing food in front of him takes Beal on a bee route directly to the rim. Easy bucket. No help defense, though the real problem was Beno being an express lane to the rim. But all is not lost, we've got the ball and a heap of timeouts.

-6 or 7 seconds left and coach doesn't call for a timeout. Entire team looks confused. No one is moving cause they're all expecting a time out. Ball is inbounded and hot potatoed to Melo who seems to be wondering like everyone else why no TO is called. Runs through two defenders to put up a contested yolo three. Game.

Mike Woodson, your time is up fam. I can deal with losing. I CANNOT deal with incompetence.

yall blaming woodson, but why did the players leave udrih on a island with beal with no backdoor help, & they knew they had a foul to give

Kobe is a dictator, if he wants to go out and play hero ball, nobody in that orginization will say a damn thing.

Lakers were so fun to watch early in the season though, it was like they were playing pickup ball

The problem is, if Kobe isn't the awesome ball stopper, hero-playing hooper that he has been as recently as last year, what purpose does he serve on the floor?

His ability to facilitate at times last year was so potent because of his ability to score at will. Unless my eyes are deceiving me, that ability isn't there at the moment. His passing is almost moot because he's coughing it up at an incredible rate. So what is the purpose of Kobe being out there right now? Charlotte he had some moments, if he can consistently be that Kobe (minus the turnovers) then maybe.

But there's something to be said about him coming back, and they look absolutely terrible compared to when he was out.

well he has to come back at some point, and he will need about a month to get back into game shape at some point (not saying he will be what he was last year but he will be better than he is now). this season is meaningless to us so its perfect for us to ease him back into things. its like how if a bad team drafts a potential star player they are fine with playing the rookie big minutes at the cost of winning more games in order to get the rookie nba experience, while if the same rookie went to a contender (see darko, kobe, ect...) they wont play him as much because winning is more important than player development. right now we are a bad team not going anywhere so it doesnt matter if we are worse off with kobe on the floor (and lacking our PGs) as long as he's getting used to playing at a high level again. if he's like this next year then we will have a problem.

1) Udrih should not have been in the game.

2) If were talking about the foul to give why didn't Udrih use it when he was obviously beat.

3) There definitely should've been help but at the same time you can't let him take you baseline when the help is in the other direction. The Wizards spaced us out, no one was really close enough to help.

Fair enough. But let me ask you, if he doesn't return to being a high level player this year, what gives you the inclination that he'll be top flight after getting a year older?

Again, i'm rooting for Kobe but he really looks like a sore thumb out there for that team because he can't consistently score at will, and he turns it over as much as he creates. He isn't a knock down spot up guy, and he's not a lock down defender anymore. Those are just observations from what i've seen from him thus far.

well it wouldnt, and that would be a problem for us. but I'll wait till the second half of the season before evaluating the level at which he can play at, right now im just glad that he's back and that his body seems to be holding up.

he has never been to efficient playing point guard, he had a really bad shooting year when we had mike brown as a coach because he would bring the ball down the floor and have to do everything himself. once the coaches started getting the ball to him in the post or on the elbow he started playing and shooting better. my main problem right now is that he's playing way too passive which is probably because he saw the ball movement when he was out and is trying to fit in. imo we would be better off if he tried to be old kobe and attacked constantly while letting the bench do the whole ball movement dantoni basketball thing (when farmar comes back of course). right now he seems to only shoot when he is wide open or if he is forced too for shot clock reasons, this also is a reason for his low fg% since he's never in rhythm and thats important for someone as streaky as he is.

Not confident the Wolves can make the playoffs. This division is already tough as it is. Think the drought will continue and I can be looking at the countdown to Kevin Love leaving.

Valid points, although I honestly think him being passive has more to do with his limitations offensively more so than him deciding to consciously become a passer. If he were to try to be a scorer, it would get really ugly to me. Nothing but struggle drives and contested jumpers. We'll see though.

I completely agree though about him being best off the ball and in the post/elbow area. That's where his game took off when PJ came to town and moved him to those scoring areas. It's something that I wish more great players would do instead of constantly trying to score and make plays via pick and rolls from the 3 point line.

Lakers had low expectations when kobe was out, saying theyre worse with him is just saying that you had higher expectations for the team with him coming back from an injury  you cant be srs, the team is just trash and kobe cant do what he wants on the court & making him the pg when he has no chemistry with the team yet doesnt help either

he does have limitations offensively but i dont think kobe will ever believe that he's not the best scorer in the nba, for better or worse. I dont know, maybe if he starts trying to take over it will get ugly but so far he hasn't even tried to. he's also probably still dealing with trust issues with his legs so until he gets over that he wont go 100%.

we were able to be successful with fish as our pg in phil's system because the triangle allowed kobe to rotate naturally into his best spots. with dantoni he doesnt have that so once we get a real pg to play alongside kobe im hoping that he stops playing unselfishly by trying to be a distributor but rather he plays unselfishly by moving off the ball and scoring when he gets the ball in his spots.
