Are we judging fame or basketball when we say superstar? I'm confused dudes talking about jersey sales and where he plays

he's famous but he doesnt play basketball at a superstar level IMO at least not consistently
I have come to realize that both are equally as important. Names matter as much as talent nowadays. Hes a crowd draw and sells jersies like few others can, thats star power.

Melo is getting to the line danm near 8 times a game, what do you want. 10? 12?

The real reason?

Melo isn't and never has been an elite athlete

reffing an NBA game is difficult, as I understand it a lot of the times refs see fouls, by reading the defender, if Lebron blows past someone or is speeding in the and the defender is in a disadvantageous and physical contact is initiated, they are much likely to blow a whistle, even if the contact isn't severe. Melo doesn't do this nearly as often, he initiates alot of the contact with strength and size, while a defender is holding their ground, much less likely to be called for a foul.

The refs dont hate melo, thats silly, he gets a ton of fouls, for a non elte athelte.

Volume scorers, dont really make teammates better, led league in scoring, 7-11 time all stars, never won anything. Sounds about right.
this is exactly why I pray for a Carmelo trade everyday isolation ball wont win it might win you a playoff series but it wont get you to the finals

It's been amazing seeing the narrative around Carmelo Anthony change in this forum over the years. I remember at one point a while back folks really felt as though he was going to be better than LeBron James and now folks are saying he can't be compared career wise to Tracy McGrady.

You ain't lying.

I bring this up all the time when people talk about Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins on here. It's the EXACT same narrative as Lebron/Melo on this board back in 2003.

Not saying that's how Parker/Wiggins will turn out but it looks EERILY familiar.

People were tired of the hype and doubted Lebron and Melo was the "NBA ready" underdog who was the better player to people.

Can't really compare Lebron and melo to wiggins and Parker. Considering Lebron never played college

Lebron came into the league from day 1 and was a beast, so one could only assume he would do the same thing had he gone to college

I would be surprised if either wiggins or Parker had a first year like James had. Production wise and impact wise

I HATE this "initiates the contact" argument dudes use to discredit Melo as if he's the only star in the league who initiates contact. Wade won a championship off it.

I don't care how many FT's Melo shoots a game. I can't take anyone seriously who watches the guy play and can say with a straight face that he doesn't get the short end of the stick as far as officiating. He constantly gets hammered down low and the refs swallow their whistles.

I'm not comparing the players.

I'm comparing the narrative. Which is EXACTLY the same.

Allen Iverson was definitely a superstar. Patented crossover, signature Reebok shoes, shortest elite scorer in the game. The 2001 Finals run solidified it. Put Philly on his back offensively through Toronto and Milwaukee. Almost stole two games from LA by himself. Took Lue's soul.

That's all true, but they were both still better than Melo.

Melo still has ~5 good years left to be effective in this league.

I do favor AI over him, but Tmac? I think Melo's career will be better than Tmac's when its all said done. All 3 are/were superstars imo.

Melo is dominique wilkins of our era, they dont have the same game but both are very underappreciated superstars because of their lack of playoff success :smh: :smh:

John Salmons' headband game is superstar status for sure. He's creating his own brand and style. The Christian Audigier of headbands.
