he's a 2 time NBA champion and a 32 and 14 guy in his prime with 2 blocks and steal a game

i dont think kobe's ever shot over 46% in a season , that make be factored in to the PER but im not sure

PER is basically a summary of a player's box score. Pretty much offense based besides steals and blocks, which can be deceiving.

Mcadoo is an all time great...im not disputing that.

but u cant compare the likes of mcadoo..bob lanier...of the 70s to kobe today or even 2002-present.

Comparing players of diff eras has been beaten to death...but im just saying.

take a step back...mention bob mcadoo and kobe...whos the better player..who had a better career. Who was more skilled. How many would say mcadoo? But...if ppl wanna go off the list...thats fine by me. I know what ive seen in my 30+ yrs of lifetime. I like advanced stats/metrics...but all im sayin is that sometimes..the stats are a bit misleading.

Example.....somebody like sayyyyy artis gilmore....his fg percentage...

compared to lets saaaaayyyy... AI...

can u make a comparison to someone that takes less shots(smaller sample size) and inside 5 feet while set up/spoonfed to someone who creates and takes high degree of difficulty shots? At a higher volume? Prob not....but the numbers say "artis gilmore shot 15 percent or whatever higher than AI"....

i knew kobe would be pretty low on the list before i even clicked the thread, he's not the kind of player to put up "lebron/shaq" numbers. stat wise he gets his points and a little bit of the rest year in and year out

his shooting % def brings down his PER though

According to the career all time PER list...NEIL JOHNSTON is 11th ALL TIME. Ahead of some very, very notable names. This should tell u all u need to know about how truly indicative PER is.

This, PER only uses box score stats. There are no advanced stats involved in the calculation at all. It doesn't really give you much depth of analysis.

Also, IT DOESN'T FACTOR IN DEFENSE AT ALL

I put that in all caps because I'm sure it will be ignored. This ranking completely disregards one half of the game, which to me makes it kind of pointless.

Prime example of how terrible PER is: Shaq. He's #2 on that list, yet he never really gave a crap about defense or rebounding. For all his athleticism and dominating presence, he never ranked higher than 3rd in a given season for blocks. Also, his rebounding was suspect. He had a few good seasons, but never led the league. This is why I take Hakeem over Shaq. Hakeem would give you the goods on both ends. Shaq only cared about one aspect of the game.
