Death takes a holiday: NYC had a murder-free week
Murder took a holiday last week.

There were no murders in the five boroughs in the seven days ending last Sunday, the mayor’s office said on Monday.

“It’s an anomaly. No doubt about it,” said a veteran police source. “The Grim Reaper took a break this week.”

The last time the city experienced a murder-free week was in the midst of a cold spell last January.

Overall, crime stats have been trending down so far this year.  Cops said that 256 murders have taken place in the city in 2013, a sharp decrease from the 346 people that were killed during the same time period in 2012.  The change constitutes a 26 percent drop.

Of the 256 murders, more than half — 148 — were committed with firearms, cops said.  But overall, murders involving guns were down 28.8 percent compared to the same point last year where there were 208.

There also have been 266 fewer total shootings in the city this year than at this same point last year.

There have been 879 shootings in 2013 so far, while 1,145 shootings took place at this point in 2012 – a decrease of 23.2 percent.

When it comes to crime-fighting, this year could be one for the record books.

For the entire year of 2012, the city logged 419 murders — its lowest total since comparable records have been kept.
Racists and stop and frisk advocates will not be happy to see the recent drop in crime coinciding with stop and frisk reform.

Comic con and skateboarders taking over Manhattan helped lol

Seriously though, that's unheard of.

thats great to hear . Chiraq, plz take note

Chicago had a murder free 24-hours last January.  Although that was just because it was too cold to be outside murdering...  And also they didn't count attempted murders in the stat...

Same reason why murder rates in my city drop during the Winter.. It's too damn cold to be outside scheming. High of 50 today. It has begun.

That's a great rare stat.

More like there were no murders reported and the murderers are getting better at disposing the bodies.
Right

besides, look who the report came from, the Mayor's office.
you're not from new york are you?

the mayor's office is currently getting killed over the fact that he openly supports racial profiling and has been arguing that the crime rate will soar now that stop and frisk is regulated.

this is the same mayor's office that argued that a minor bump in crime over the 13 days following the stop and frisk ruling was a sign that nyc was devolving into a lawless crime zone.

you could have said that the ny post simply can't be trusted and that may be true.  generally it's a racist newspaper known to bend the truth, race bait and sensationalize.  just look at this report on the "soaring" gun crimes following the stop and frisk regulation ruling

http://nypost.com/2013/09/19/gunstats/

so the fact that this comes from the mayors office and is being covered by them adds some credence to the report.

bloomberg claiming that crime is down DESPITE his best efforts to prove otherwise doesn't help him at all.  if any thing it makes him look like a fool.
