For the Love of the Game???

After watching that new D Rose commercial, I'm curious to know...out of all the professional sports (in which the average salaries range from hundred-thousands to millions), whom of these athletes would still do this for a living, if the salaries (and endorsement dollars) were reduced to the averages of middle-America?

I mean deal with all the celebrity, fame, lack of privacy, athletic workload, PR appearances, charity work, autograph signings, etc. for a salary of...maybe around $65,000 annually (+$35,000 from endorsements)...

I know at the end of the day it's still just playing a game you grew up playing for a living, but who do you think actually "LOVES" the game so much that they'd put up with all that other ishh, and just 'get by' financially?

So you are asking how many of these players would play ball for 100k a year? My vote would be 99% of them. Most of them wouldn't have much else to do.

Well, for example remember Latrell Spreewell, turning down a contract because it wasn't enough to feed his family?  I could see some dudes being like that.

Greg Oden have said multiple times that he's not even that big of a fan of the game. He's tall, so basketball became the logical choice.

So who would play just for the love of the game and an average salary? Not Greg Oden.

I think most of them would play for a normal salary but as you get older, it becomes a chore. I'm sure most, if not all would play for $100k at 22. At 32, it's a different story....

Ah, I see.

Basketball, sure.  But what about something more physical, such as football/hockey...

^Naw, they'd probably be at $20-24,000.  It would all be proportionate to the levels of salaries currently.

def not. Hockey maaaaaaybe, but that's grueling. Def not football, I think tolerance for that would be real short. $100K for football? Nah son

Hey, if any current 12th man told me they would play for $20-30,000, I would call him a liar to his face. There's no way.
