Help me plan my trip to Rome and Paris vol. ****** in Paris and Rome

Ok, NT. I'm finally deciding to take a vacation after working 2 long years without literally any break (not including federal and religious holidays). I've never had the chance to travel around on my own not regarding work commitments. This trip is purely for my self-satisfaction and to get away for 10 days.

I've decided to spend my time in Rome and Paris. I'm going to take a late flight December 26th and arrive in Rome on the 27th in the morning. I'll stay in Rome till the 31st and arrive in Paris the same day via EasyJet or RyanAir. From there, I will spend New Years Eve in Paris and leave on the 4th of January.

I have my entire itinerary planned out, except for hotel reservations. I've done quiet a bit of research, but I'm skeptical of what I'm hearing. I'd love it if anyone who had gone to these cities and stayed more than 3 days would please inform me of what the best areas are for lodging.

Also, I'm open to hearing any recommended places to go visit while I'm at Rome or Paris.

watch your pockets by the Trevi fountain in Rome...some gypsies try to use that slight of hand **** and will reach for your wallet or try have their kids pick yours when you are not looking. 

some old Roma lady reached under and grabbed my junk. not sure if she was trying to move her hand around to check pockets or just wanted a feel.

I love rome :smokin

Theres a place called little Philippines and they have really good hostels that are very cheap.
The food there is great of course.

Learn some italian and eat at a restaurant with a foreign menu.

If u exit the train station and make a left theres a place where they always have awesome festivals.

Wine can be had for 10 euros and u can drink and walk around 8)

If u like art..churches there have AMAZING art. Caravaggios stuff is all over there.

Go to the piaza del popolo.
Its like a huge square with two churches inside. The road leading up to it is limed with shops if u lookin for gear sneakers etc. Its also where u see alot of people lookin fly for blogs n s***. (Women)

Fill your water up at any fountain. Even ones with statues.
Its extremely clean.

Feed the pigeons

Wat i usually tell people tho is to lose the map and just lose yourself in it.
There's literally something around every corner.
 
Went to paris during august.

Go to the usual tourist attractions. Eiffel, Louvre, versailles.

Hit up L'Avenue one of the top restaurants in paris

If you have time take a flight to the cannes, st tropez or monaco you wont regret it
 
Can anyone tell me where the best places to stay at a hotel are in both cities? I want to be in an area close to sites, attractions and public transportation as well.
 
Just got back from Rome a couple weeks back. Stayed at an Airbnb while in Rome which was by the Trevi fountain. Was a really nice location since you can walk to all the touristy spots and cheaper than a hotel but much better than a hostel. You're staying a decent amount of time in Rome if anything you can take Trenitalia to Florence/Pisa and check out those spots. If visiting the Vatican my advice to you is to buy tix beforehand and there's a trick/shortcut of getting to St Peter's Basilica through the Vatican by exiting the door on the right of the Sistine Chapel so then you won't have to wait in a long *** security line. Just make sure you follow a tour group since only tour guides have access of going to St Peters from the Vatican.

Forget a hotel, stay in a hostel. Nothing like the movies, and you'll get SO MUCH MORE out of your trip 'cause the people in the hostels will put you up on game.

IDK about this. I'm a young professional. I don't think I'd want to stay in a hostel filled with college kids. I'm not really looking to party much in this trip. I just want to relax and soak in all the culture that Rome and Paris has to offer.

I would be down to go out for a dew drinks here and there.

My Sister lives in Paris...walking distance to the Eiffel Tower.

I'll provide some detailed info and pictures when I get to my laptop.

I was thinking of staying around the Eiffel, but some people told me to watch out for all the tourist. What do you think about staying around the Lourve? Am I setting myself up for frustration?

This hotel looks really nice. Strongly considering this one. How much time did you spend in your hotel room (not including sleeping) while you were in Rome? Did you feel like you didn't need a "nicer" room, because of all the sightseeing you did? Did you ever use the amenities of the hotel while your stay?

It's Paris...there will be tourist, but it's not different than the average day in D.C./New York....two cities that I am from. Crowds or people don't bother me personally, especially when I am doing my own thing.


My sister lives in Rue Vital/Passy and that was a great location to be for a traveler as it is close to a lot of key sights. It is walking distance to the Louvre/Eiffel. The Paris Metro is right down the block.

If you are flying into CDG airport you can take the Paris RER to the Paris Metro and then into your desired city/location. The Paris Metro system is similiar to Philly/DC.

Some cool things to do check out:

-Monmarte
-Notre Dame
-Louvre
-Eiffel Tower
-Champes Elysees
-Port d'Orleans
-Chatelet
-St. Michel
-Luxembourg


Eat, eat, eat....Patisseries and bakeries galore. Eat crepes, baguettes, raspberry tarts. Un cafe and cous cous marquez. There is a lot to do at night from museums, to shopping, to clubs/bars. Futbol is huge over there so be careful which jersey you sport in which bar.

Bar owner was so mad back in 2009 when Man U lost to Barcelona that he unplugged the big screen tv and took it into the back and closed the bar down. 8)


I'll post more as it comes to me and I'm sure if my sister is in town during your visit, she would give you her input. She enjoys the opportunity to speak English again and interact with Americans.

I stayed four nights. Not including sleep I spent 1-2 hours just to change or rest for a while. I would definitely look into other alternatives. What I liked most about the hotel was the location, all the major attractions where within walking distance. Plus there was a lot to do around the hotel as well, shops, cafes, ruins, art, so many things. In addition the buses stopped right by the hotel so if you wanted to venture somewhere you had that option as well. One of the buses takes you straight to the Vatican which was very convenient.

IDK if i should stay in a hotel near the Eiffel Tower or by the Lourve museum. What do you think?

It would be great if your sister was in town when I'm there. Would love to be able to speak to an American and talk English. I'm preparing not to speak any English when i'm there :lol:

Went to Rome for a few days this summer. For one , I'll start off by telling you it is SUPER crowded, other than that it is a nice place. Be somewhat careful if your pockets in crowded places, because some people have reported really bad pick pocketing rates. From my experience, there seems to be two sides of the city divided by a bridge, the smaller/ less industrialized side has better AND cheaper good lol. What kind of money are you looking to spend on a hotel?

Price really isn't a worry. I just want to experience Rome and Paris to it's fullest.

Any good places to eat? I'm from NY, so I don't care if the food comes from a cart or from a kitchen--I'll eat anything as long as it's good.
