Did Ricky Rubio live up to the hype?

Lol no. People seem to think health is a free pass or something. Health is PART OF YOUR WORTH. All this "man if he was healty he would...." Doesn't equate into anything. Him being hurt is proof that he does not have what it takes. It's one thing for a freak accident or something to happen. It's another for it to be just your time to call it quits.

Who said that? I'm saying if an injury caused by nothing but normal wear puts you out you're done and is a testament to your true value.

Ex: I love penny, but he can't be called one of the greats because his injury killed his career pretty early. You can argue "man if he was healthy blah blah blah" but it doesn't matter

Rubio is nice, but a lot of people thought he'd be multiple time all star by this point. I like his game a lot though and it's definitely possible for him in the near future.

People also probably assumed that he would play the year he was drafted and not two years later. Give it a little more time and I think it gets to that point.

^ What TANGIBLE reason is there to believe he'll be an all time great? Or even one of the greatest of the next generation? Or even the current class, moving forward a few years?

OK, he makes fancy passes.

What else ya got?

"He's so young!" There are HSers who make fancy passes, so we should all be on alert that every single one of them is a future HOFer... because they're so young? Oh, and fancy.

Here I was thinking the HOF and All Stars and all other accolades were given based on accomplishments, not fantasy and possibility. Silly me.

Since he's so young and the possibilities are absolutely ENDLESS, I wonder what Rubio's gonna wear to his HOF induction.

"I'm just saying, he COULD be a spectacular player, based on the fact that he's so young and has so much time."

"Makes fancy passes" is the substance you get when you see him on the floor?

Those passes are to players who have every opportunity to get a basket. Just because he has a little flash doesn't make him just another White Chocolate.

He went 5th in the draft, like you know this right? This doesn't seem to fit within your argument, if people thought he was going to be an all time great would have went higher than 5.

NT = crystal ball talk.

To put it into perspective we have some guys claiming D rose is a top 5 player.............. Based on LAST YEARS STATS.......... Which he DID NOT PLAY IN lol

I wasn't talking about 'people'; I was talking about 'NT'.

And yes, folks on NT were definitely throwing the names Pistol Pete, Magic, and Zeke out there. I remember when he was drafted, too. "Minnesota's about to be a PROBLEM." "The takeover." "Keep laughing. Y'all just don't know."

And since those folks literally have absolutely nothing to do with the draft, then the position he was drafted in has no reflection on whatever was said on NT.

Absolutely not; I definitely see much more than "fancy passes." I was just saying that out of sarcasm.

What I see is a dominance similar to Shaq, Jordan, and Wilt, a handle akin to Pistol, and a 'basketball quarterback' along the lines of Magic.

Except better.

Rubio is gonna be VERY good, he'll prove so this season, and he has K. Love back

OP could've just asked this question in the NBA thread

Rubio and Flynn got drafted next to each other...whose career would you rather have up until this point :rolleyes

Man, I remember the hype when he was drafted. Dude can't even put up stats on a torn ACL and his half a year to rehab. Bust.

Ska you're revealing a ton about your knowledge outside of the Lakers.

Soooo... wouldn't it make sense to sing his praises when he actually IS accomplishing greatness? As opposed to knighting him now because what he has done has been accomplished despite being so young and injured.

Everyone who just cracked into the league could be an all time great; every single one. Nick Young could be. Kemba Walker could be. Eyebrows could be.

What's everyone's problem with... waiting?

And I'm not even saying he won't be great. I'm not calling him a bust, failure, or anything similar. But people acting like "OK, when he's in the HOF, you're gonna be super salty, and I'll be laughing."

Laughing at who? Not me, because if he's ever great, I'll say "Damn, that dude's great."

But potentially great? I'll potentially applaud him, then.

I don't give praise on credit.

this is sports though, where everyone knows how good each rookie is going to be, which team is going to win every game and which team is going to win the championship every year before the damn preseason. what do you expect
laugh.gif

Normally yeah, but It's not like the majority of people are calling him an all-time great yet though.

It's like when you don't want that one or two Laker fans to speak for the 90% of you.
