Did Ricky Rubio live up to the hype?

That has always been my dude but if he doesn't speed up his slow *** set shot he will never be a solid shooter in the NBA. Dude has the slowest jumper in the NBA

He leads the league in steals, and he's Top 5 in assists per game.

He's been a horrible shooter this year, and makes bad decisions in big spot (like the last pass vs PHX last night). That can improve in time. Will it? Who really knows.

All that said, he's absolutely elite in certain aspects of the game. That's undeniable. It'll keep him in the rank of the league's best point guards.

Theres a fairly largeeeee gap between elite and poor. Dude is chillin.right n the middle. Like michael strahans teeth. Rubio is average. Always will be

Make fun of his piss poor shooting or something. Or his inability to finish at the rim. He's not an average defender no matter how badly you want him to be.

This.

It's an offensive world though. People can't see defense, or at least, it takes more work then just seeing who scores baskets. It's evident in the Dirk vs. KG argument as well. People weigh things heavily towards points as if that's the only element that goes into playing successful basketball.

As bad as he's been with anything that has to do with scoring, I swear people don't understand that there are two sides of a basketball court.
 
As it stands he's basically a taller Brevin Knight. I never understood how Brevin Knight bounced around the league as much as he did given his passing prowess but that's what I see in Rubio's future. I don't understand that since he appeared in the Olympics in 2008 it's been known that he doesn't have a stable jumpshot. It's been almost 6 years now that he's had to work on his shot and in the very least, develop a set shot like Kidd had.
 
Ain't exactly a bust, but hasn't lived up to the hype...yet.

Athleticism and the jumper are two issues.

IQ and passing are strengths.

Very few PG's have all of them.  Rubio ain't there yet.

Knight averaged 4apg because he was a back up, to prime Jason Williams in Memphis. Every year he was a starter he put up great passing numbers.

If you look at his per 36 stats, Brevin Knight averaged 7+ assists every season, and averaged 8.9 for his career. I don't think comparing Rubio to Brevin Knight is some huge insult like you're making it out to be.

Brevin Knight was a great passer but limited scorer, who was good enough to start for some teams but not all. Currently Rubio would start for many teams, but he'd come off the bench for a good amount of teams also. I like watching him play, but let's be real.. it's not like he's some stud All-Star pg right now.


IMO the area he most needs improvement isn't his jumpshot, it's finishing at the rim. I believe Rubio has the worst FG% at the rim among starting PGs (under 40%). If you can't shoot, at least be able to make easy layups. On multiple occassions I've seen dude miss wide open layups. That should be basic for a professional basketball player

Thank you for reminding me why I stopped posting posting in the sports forum. If you watched any semblance of late 90s early 00s basketball, you would know that Brevin Knight was one of the best pure passing pgs in the league but because of his shooting deficiencies he bounced around the league. But feel free to jump back mouth first on Rubio's nutsack, your minute of fresh air is up. Someone else already extrapolated Brevin's number but if you take the slightest of glance at his stats when he got starter's minutes you would know averages just a little bit more than 4 or 5 assists per games seeing that you've never seen him play.
 
I liked Brevin. He was a good passer, yes. But again...we're neglecting the entire defensive side, which is where Rubio separates himself from most. He can certainly improve his shooting to be become a better offensive PG though.
 
Lol the fact that were trying to.validate the legitimacy of comparing him to brevin knight is all you need to know here. Its time we jus call a spade a spade n move on. Theres at least 10 much better pgs n the league off top. Dudes a bust.
