Jay-Z's Bold response to Racial Profiling & Barney's Partnership. UPDATED 11/16

Sheer stupidity. Backing out of the deal is equal to discriminating a race?

Maybe the KKK should set up a fund for the NAACP

Cut the B.S. Barney's isn't the only collaborator available. Valuing money and a donation over respect.

Jay might as well put on the tap shoes and start dancing in front of white folks now...

A sell out is this...

Jay Z will not distance himself from Barneys. According to a recent statement, Jay Z revealed that he would continue with the launch of his fashion line at Barneys and will deal with the racial profiling issue.

After two black teens were victims of racial profiling at Barneys, some of Jay Z’s fans called on him to step away from his deal with Barneys to teach the department store a lesson. However, Jay Z believes it’s in his best interest to continue with the partnership.

In turn, Jay Z says he will sit on a council that will “deal the issue of racial profiling.” Jay Z also said that 100 percent of the proceeds received from the items sold will go to the Shawn Carter Foundation. Jay Z’s foundation will also receive an additional 10 percent of all retail sales from Barneys stores across the nation.

The deal seems to be favorable for Jay Z and his foundation, but it does nothing to stop hip-hop fans from labeling him a “sell out” because of his partnership with Barneys.

^ straight sell out man...

:smh:

Can't rock with this dude at all.

Giving back to the community; sitting on a board to attempt to solve the issue of racial profiling... I don't see it.

Everytime were giving an opportunity to actually do something about an issue we'd rather stand on our soapbox screaming outdated cliches, running from the problem instead of facing it head on...

Negroes hustling backwards.

*Kanye Shrugs*

You know what's symbolic of Jay keeping ties with a company like Barney's?

Its bigger than his foundation.

being a sellout is just an excuse for people that are not willing to do what it takes to be successful.

You forgot the integrity portion of that assessment sir
this is jayz we are talking about, in every song he talks about being rich and being able to sell anything

this seems to fall in line with what he has been rapping to us all these years

the same people blasting him in this thread wouldnt think twice about signing on the dotted line if they were given that much money to "sellout"

I don't disagree with the first part of your statement. I've always had that issue with Jay Z. I'm one of the few that separates rap "lifestyle" from actual rappers as people. Although there are few, there are some that draw the line with certain things. Clearly Mr. Carter isn't one of them. That's my take on it.

so let me get this straight

selling out = directing 100% of a high end retail company's flagship store's profits during the holiday season toward the empowerment of the people they discriminate against, as well as 10% of all stores nationwide.

yeah i mean of course there have been times where someone does something really bad to society for money and in that case the term sellout fits but i never understood why some people seem to call every successful person they see a sellout. only way to make it in this world is to adapt, no one is ever going to be successful by never changing in fear of being called a sellout. when they do charity is not enough and when they adopt successful business strategies its why dont they spend the effort giving back to the people. just because someone made it doesnt mean he needs to be giving people handouts left and right
