NFL Week 8 In Review...

Two responses from two non-winning franchises.

Of course the salt is in the air.

I think it is refreshing that someone can enjoy a sports season without a championship involved. Shows perspective and it is how society used to view sports (more realistic and healthy way of viewing IMO)

That Vikings team was Super Bowl or bust. Anything less was a failure. So to shed a tear of joy over a 3rd/4th place finish is quite pathetic to me. Unacceptable.

When you root for a pathetic franchise like the Seahawks or Texans, then I could understand how division titles are like watching your first born.

*Adjusts collar uncomfortably*

I think it would have to involve some levels of discussing what "enjoy" means.

I wouldn't really say that I enjoy every Cubs seasons, I simply am numb to it.
I damn sure do not enjoy any season the Lakers don't win.
And I'm getting ready to start Dextering people over the damn Dolphins never winning.
Same with the Canes.

Enjoy, and not winning, is not exactly the combination of words I would be throwin around.

 the division banner as an avy, can't even rebuttal and try and play it off.

God knows I'll be happy when the Raiders win the division again, but the year after that I'm sure as hell expecting more.

The Vikings were the best team in the NFL that season... but here's what happened:

Brett Favre fumbled.
Bernard Berrian fumbled.
Darius Reynaud fumbled.
Adrian Peterson fumbled.
Percy Harvin fumbled.
Brett Favre threw a pick.
Brett Favre threw a pick.

And despite all of that, the Vikings had the ball deep in New Orleans' zone with the score tied at 28, with just 19 seconds left in the game. Not to mention, all of these turnovers while still keeping the score knotted took place at the Super Dome on the road.

Then the biggest factor when looking back, happened. The 12-men on the field penalty sent them back enough where a FG would've been 50-55+ yards, and a first down was necessary if you wanted to feel comfortable about your chances. Then Tracy Porter happened.

All of this points to the less talented team moving on. Despite effectively Cheddar Bobbing themselves more times than what could keep a person sane, they still had the ball on the last drive, seconds from victory.

The two best teams in the NFL played in that game. Anyone that disagrees with the Vikings being the better team didn't watch the game. You don't allow the ball to hit the turf 7 times and also have possession in enemy territory that late in a tie ballgame if you're not the better team. It's frustrating that they didn't advance where they would've surely beaten the Colts, but I can take some consolation (different from a moral victory) in it being such an entertaining season. As much as I enjoy sports, the true "loser mentality" is speaking of championships like they're the only way one can legitimize having pride in their team.

We're coming up on almost 20 years where the Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl. I'm supposed to assume that you haven't taken any enjoyment out of watching a Cowboys season the past 15-20 seasons? If that's true, why are you still a fan of this franchise?

I'm sure this has nothing to do with the Cowboys leading scorer in that playoff game against the Vikings being Shaun Suisham.

Your leading scorer went 1/3 on FG attempts in a controlled environment.

I didn't pick my team based on the fact that they were winning, so I enjoy both the ups and the downs.

I know if you are a born front-runner it's hard to understand how real fans think.

LOL. Once again, replaying BS. Wall of text that no one ask for or cares about.

Maybe Sports Illustrated will start coming out with junior achievement seasons on Blu-ray & DVD for you.

Are you betting or not?

Was this a serious post? You have the attention span of Leonard Shelby from Memento.

And god knows the Cowboys could use a junior achievement award. At least our loss to the Saints didn't give off the vibe of a damn parade about to be thrown when the Cowboys beat the Eagles that season.

Actual Jerry Jones quote after that game: "The demons have been exorcised!"

That's an actual quote.

Are you betting or not?

I don't do bets where one person loses something while the other doesn't.

The lions won some championships in the 50s do I get to lord those over people?

Stop arguing with Shoes he's been on his period since Sunday.

expectations adjust . this is a dead argument

in retrospect given how lousy the Cowboys have been the past decade , if you make it to the NFC championship or super bowl and lose you will be happy about the season as a whole . you cant go from not winning a playoff game in a decade to being furious at anything less than a superbowl

sidenote -- i have no prob with shoes posts . for the most part i find them entertaining and enjoyable

The Vikings won the championship the year prior to the AFL-NFL merger.

At least around the Midwest, it's pretty common to bring up the Packers early year successes with Bart Starr, but nothing about the Vikings of course. Like there never has been one single triumph in franchise history. Perception is reality though. Of course that will be ignored by the Cowboys PR employee on here though, since the Cowboys lost consecutive championships two of the three seasons before the merger happened. "Things before the merger don't matter".

As you were.

Well, it's all relative. As a bandwagoner you just wouldn't understand dawg, sorry.

Saying team success is relative just proves his point about having lowered expectations.

If youre comparing youre team to another success should be a hard line.

Enjoying a season is something else entirely. I enjoyed last years cowboys, always came back in the second half no matter the deficit or team. It wasnt a successful season.

Ask patriot fans about 07, if they consider it successful. Wouldnt that be the perfect control test? You dudes are saying championships aren't the end all be all. They won every game but. See what they say.

...and here you are telling us how you can't wait to tell your grandchildren about the great chronicle of the '09 Vikings. LOL.

LOL.

Perfect logic.

This (So weird, because I'm an Eagles fan), but I also enjoy his posts  It's hilarious seeing people get worked up over his them, still. He's been doing this for so long, you'd think people would be used to it by now.

But hey, at least you're recognizing we're in the same boat. This year's college freshmen weren't even alive the last time your team won anything.

LOL.

Perfect logic.

We both know you wouldn't go away.

And it's not getting worked up it's just stating the actual realities so young kids aren't influenced into thinking this dude's words are gospel when really it's just we're tired of the bit.

Dude has to be one of the most successful trolls of all time. Absolutely hilarious

I don't even know who you are but just as long as I can get that other Packers fan involved, it's a bet.

Get off your high horse clown. You have me quoted in your OP of this thread

It's cool though, to your credit I didn't think you'd be foolish enough to take my bet.
