2012 16 GP 122, 1,964 5 TD
2013 7 GP 47, 821 7 TD

99 Games played.
535 Receptions
8,657 Yards
61 TD's

6-5' 235lbs 4.4 Speed, catch radius the size of Wyoming.

1 Playoff game. 12 receptions, 211 yards, 2 TD

Last 27 games including the playoff game, SIX 200 yard games. No other receiver in history has more than 6 for an entire career.

36 100 yard games + 1 Playoff game.

So, after 100 games, We're here. If you go the simple route, you double everything to 200 games, you get 1

1,070 receptions
17,314
122 TDs

Jerry Rice finished at 303 games
1,549 receptions
22,895 yards
197 TD's

If Calvin continued this pace to 300 games, like Jerry, it would look like....

1,605 receptions
25,971 yards
183 TD's

Of course, Calvin would finish with only 3 career playoff games, so let's hope that that fixes itself at some point so we can see more of him in the postseason where legends truly get made.

Jerry played 20+ years, til he was 42.

Calvin just turned 28. He could play for another 13 years and still be level with Jerry.

Now, the difference certainly would be era for Jerry, vs this new era for Calvin. Certainly worth mentioning.

So there you go. It is certainly early in Calvin's career, but it's also very clear what his path is barring injury. We've seen LeBron hyped, rise up, and now lead. We witness it every year now. Could we be seeing it in the NFL too with Calvin, chasing down an immortal in Jerry Rice?

Was just having this discussion with my homeboy last night. He's definitely better than TO and Randy at this rate. Now Jerry Rice? Only time will tell

He's not even in the red zone yet

From WIR:

I'm going to go ahead and expedite this because since last year I have felt strongly that I'm watching the greatest WR of all-time. Nothing has changed my mind. When you piece together a WR, you don't need to add Carter's hands, Randy's deep threat ability, Rice'swork ethic, etc. because Calvin has all of it already. The best part of it all is that his physical prowess doesn't lead to just potential. He actually produces. And he produces on a level I've never seen. Don't care that they throw 50 times a game. The level of difficulty with which he catches on a consistent basis is unreal.

Best ever.

Calvin Johnson will be the greatest of all-time in my opinion. I said it again and I'm not a "young cat." I think if anything, people need to realize that th stars of yesteryear, when we were growing up, can be moved off the top spot. It's always happened. Michael Jordan may not forever be looked at as the best...Same with Rice, Montana and all the like.

Because Jerry Rice worked hard and worked with less given talent doesn't give him an entitlement for forever being the greatest of all-time. So long as the job gets done, what the hell does it matter if one used mastery of nuances vs. the other who simply was unstoppable? Johnson probably won't master the position like Rice, but it's unfair to not give him the chance to master the game to the best that he can, which still may be more than ample enough to continue to get the job done.

SB rings for a receiver is a dead argument. There's nothing there.

We've never seen a reciever like him, he's the greatest talent at the position we've seen. He has everything, he can make catches that no other man playing the game can make.

300 yards fam....

300 yards.

What I find interesting is that there are some who believe Jerry Rice was the greatest football player ever. If you agree with that statement (far from outlandish), then wouldn't Calvin Johnson Jr. be GOAT NFL player. Maybe one day, but that's extremely lofty praise at this point of his career.

Randy was just a deep threat, son was scared to get hit, calvin is on another lvl, aj is up next

Given Calvin's affinity for being tackled at the 1 yard line for some reason, he may well end up as the 2nd or 3rd greatest player ever.

651, agree. I mentioned the idea in my first post this morning, Calvin may not reach the mark, he may blow a knee tomorrow, but his trajectory is headed straight up. And he may not level off for another 5-6 years, and if he keeps improving, I have no idea where his numbers go. :smh:

A NEW CHALLENGER APPEARS!

Calvin Johnson, at 28, is sitting at:
535 Receptions
8,657 Yards
61 TD's

1 Playoff game. 12 receptions, 211 yards, 2 TD

Larry Fitzgerald, at 30, is sitting at:
800 Receptions
10,883 yards
82 TD's

6 Playoff games. 42 receptions, 705 yards, 9 TD.

:nerd:

Son, you cant be serious.

Randy Moss didn't like going over the middle.

I've never seen anything like Calvin Johnson. I read this quote earlier today:

I have no idea what Calvin Johnson is other than evidence that there is a God, and we are not all created equal.

I mean, he's a once-in-a-generation type of talent. The type of guy you want to end up with at least one ring.

I'll say this though...the way the league is going by way of protecting WRs, Calvin Johnson has a legit chance to shatter a lot of records and keep his body healthy (unless he has a non-contact injury) for a LONG time. He's got the work ethic to play into his mid/late 30's. I don't care what yall think of the Lions...when he's on the field, it's must-watch TV.

Cake hit the nail on the head....Megatron is everything people thought Randy Moss would be. I'm kinda glad this is who he is for the fact we can now dead the discussion of "what if Randy Moss had a work ethic?" We're seeing it right now.

:pimp:

Matt Stafford is 25 and getting better not middle aged.

Nice try though

A couple years ago it was Fitz. Now Calvin.

This board is always in shambles right after someone has a "highlight stretch".
