Washington Wizards coach Randy Wittman on long 2s: ‘You know what? Those numbers you can stick… alright? You know, all you analytical people that take that’

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....know-all-you-analytical-people-that-take-that

This buffoon.. :smh:

There are so many progressive coaches coming into the league. Meanwhile we're stuck with this clown. Wittman should not be coaching at the NBA level if he refuses to think outside the box and make adjustments. Remember, this is the same coach who told Kevin Love to stop taking threes when he was in Minnesota. Thankfully Love dodged that bullet, and now he's one of the most dangerous offensive players in the league because of his ability to score from anywhere and space the floor.

Everyone who watches the Wizards and sees the talent on their roster, recognizes that their offense should be better than what it is (bottom 10 in the league).. everyone except Wittman that is. It drives me nuts seeing all the long twos we force up game after game, that strategy is playing right into the defense's hands. Those are the exact shots they want you to take because they're so inefficient.

Look at Beal, someone like that should be playing like Harden. He shoots 40%+ from three, every shot should either be a 3pt attempt or a dribble drive. Instead he takes like 5 long jumpers a game from just inside the 3pt line, and clearly Wittman doesn't have a problem with it.

We need to shoot more threes and less long twos, it would space the floor and give Wall even more room to drive or run the p&r with Gortat. Washington has the talent to be a very proficient offensive team, but under Wittman it isn't going to happen.

yea i thought that was the obvious weakness with Wittman, but the reason we kept him is case we had that run last year where we were the best defensive team

As long as we are good defensively we will be in alot of games, if our O was were it should be we wold be elite but i am kinda happy with where we are at

All in all i would wanna keep him for continuity unless we can get a real good coach, who can elevate the teams offense while keep us focused defensively

I think the only continuity we're gonna get with Wittman is continued mediocrity. I guarantee dude is gonna have no idea what to do in the playoffs, just wait and see.

We have to bring in a new coach imo. Wall and Beal are never going to develop properly under Wittman, their talents aren't being utilized correctly at all. Randy got the team playing good defense, but that's also because we have some good defensive players on the team. I don't think if we got another coach that they would all of a sudden forget how to play D. There's no reason for a team with our roster to be ranking bottom 10 in offense, just inexcusable imo. Wittman is underachieving, he's taking a fast car and making it look slow.

Glad we were able to take care of business vs Utah tonight. Our bench really helped us (Drew Gooden tryna get that second 10-day), and even though Otto didn't do much it was good to see him on the floor for an extended period of time. One thing I can say is he's definitely better than Chris Singleton, dude is complete trash :x

We need to come out and throttle Milwaukee next game. Gotta handle that easy part of the schedule

Yeah too bad the Raptors and Bulls keep putting up Ws. Wiz should be able to finish 5+ games over .500 with their remaining schedule. They just need to keep beating the teams they should and stay healthy.

Good to see some of the veterans putting in work like Al and Drew.

I'm worried about Brooklyn too. They have the same amount of L's as us now. For the Wizards, along with the obvious in Miami and Indiana, I really don't want to match up with Toronto. 6-8 needs to be avoided.

Chicago has a tough stretch coming up. They have to play Memphis, Miami, San Antonio, Houston, OKC, Indiana x2, and Portland all within the span of 11 games.

Ariza has been great this season but I swear if he gets a big deal from us this summer I'm going to be livid.

We are at the crossroads i feel ariza needs to stay with the team or we need a great shooter there

Im just glad it seems we finishing north of 41 wins i didnt see this as possible this season

Scoring 10 points in the third after putting up 75 in the first half....that reminded me of the 2006 Wizards who used to come out and have terrible third quarters all the time.

I like the veteran contributions and the team is showing they don't need Nene for the future. Wiz just need to stay healthy and get Wall and Beal shooting consistent. Hope they trend upward and keep playing their best ball in April.

Ariza is going to get paid. That we know. He's 28...so a team will still feel like he can get a multiyear deal.

Do we really wanna overpay for a shooter 2 summers in a row?

We already have a bit of a logjam at that spot with our #3 pick in the draft last on the depth chart.

There's three scenarios here.

1) We bring Ariza back and with the money he's likely to command...we're pretty much out of the running for any of the bigger names...so he'd be the highlight signing of the summer. This also pretty much derails the Otto Porter's development as he heads into year 2 last on the depth chart at his position

2) We move Webster and bring Ariza back (likely for more money that what we gave Martell).

3) We let him walk...Webster or Otto slides into that spot.

If we NEED Trevor Ariza back...then that means we failed horribly in last years draft. We might as well had drafted ANYBODY else but Porter if Ariza and Webster are back next season.

Truth is he played so good this season and if he keeps his impetus, i could see him maintain this type of play for 3-4 years, so it wouldnt really be good to let him go when he is still serviceable, unless we are gonna overpay him

And admitting we failed in a draft, isnt anything new for our franchise, it hurts to say but Otto hasnt been what we expected, we drafted an "NBA Ready" player but im still hoping he drops Evan Turner type numbers in his prime

Anyways i always felt we shoulda drafted Noel our bigs are all to old/unathletic, a bug who runs like him would be appreciated

Otto missed all of summer league, training camp, a good part of the season, and is playing behind and Ariza and Webster.

What were you expecting him to be?

We saw what happened the last time someone believed in Trevor Ariza and gave him a big deal.

If we do it again...and he bombs...imagine what the narrative is going to be.

I also find the trashing of Porter and everyone hyping Noel up hilarious.

Kid hasn't played a single game yet and has had two major knee injuries but everyone still talks about him like he's the 2nd coming of Bill Russell.

You got valid points, tho you cant admit he is underperforming at the moment, not that expected him to put up numbers but to be at least more effecient

I can't say anything about someone who doesn't play.

Kid can have 7 straight DNPs and then play 5 minutes in the next game and people expect him to prove his worth in those 5 minutes.

Said this in the NBA thread...but put Otto on a bad team like most of the '13 lottery and at worst he matches their output.

We're killing Otto...but whenever someone brings up Alex Len the narrative is "he's on a playoff team".

As a lifelong Georgetown fan, I'm starting to wish he played for another team because he's been setup to fail here.

Blaming Otto is pointless. He may turn out to be a bust, but right now you can't expect him to get any sort of rhythm or feel for the NBA game playing a couple minutes here and there. As with all things, just blame management. They cannot develop players nor can they draft the right ones.

Ariza has played himself into some good money, but I don't think he should be signed to the multi-year deal he'll undoubtedly command. He's been great, but he doesn't move the needle long term. After signing Webster to a 4 year deal (LOL) and drafting Otto, you can't justify the money and cap hit on another SF.

You cant say anything about Otto because the guys in front of him are balling this year. Trevors play makes this offseason more complicated but on a playoff team with two very capable vets in front of him, it's silly to expect much from any rookie.

Thats why we shoulda drafted the best player available(Noel) deviate from that draft strategy and you are bound to fail

And how do we figure Noel was the best player available?

The rookie of the year is likely going to end up being someone that went after both Noel and Porter

Idk but it was quite obvious, if i dont recall the biggest story of the draft was the fall of Noel/Bennett as the number one selection

Across draft boards there was no clear cut number 1, but Noel was touted as the number 1 prospect and personally watching him play i feel we shoulda taken him

Lucky to only be down 5 with the way this game started.

I can't STAND the way this team turns the ball over. They make some of the laziest passes

Gooden has been a solid pickup for us, dude plays no defense but he can get buckets

Drew has been a pleasant surprise.

It's sad that every time Otto scores it feels like he just hit a game winner.
