Allen Iverson Retirement Confernece On Now!

grew up watching AI... a piece of my childhood died watching this :frown:

wish him the best post retirement... he lit up the league & was an icon throughout his career. one of the best to ever do it :pimp:

i absolutely hate when people say one of the best "little man scorers"
dude was one of the best scorers PERIOD. little man, big man, whatever...stop undermining his accomplishments. There arent many 4time scoring champs.

I dont think people minimize skilled him based on his size but being bigger wouldve kept him healthier longer. I remember playing against him in high school and saying if he was 5" taller he wouldve been even better. But a beast nonetheless

They forced him into retirement. I believe he could still be a serviceable back up in the league. He can't be any worse than Steve Blake

Yes I'm a fan of Isiah Thomas.  I'm more of a fan of Allen Iverson personally because I'm from DC and I have been watching Iverson since earlier on at Georgetown and know his story a bit more.  Both are appreciated in my book.

Hold up. You're a fan of a guy like Iverson but yet you bashed Kobe for being a 40% shooter. Hypocrite much?

I agree somewhat... he also didnt want to be a backup he wanted to start.... but I agree he would have been great as backup on any playoff caliber team

How was he "forced" into retirement?

Had he made the transition to a lesser role that quite a few hall of fame players have made he would still be in the league today.

Iversons heart and ego were a gift and a curse. They were his biggest strength and played a huge role in him putting up great numbers against dudes way bigger then him but that same pride and ego worked against him in his later years and caused him to burn quite a few bridges.

His career is appreciated though. For sure hall of fame player.

Some people have more pride than to go the Ray Allen route..I respect guys like Ray Allen, Vince Carter, even Shaq, former superstars that decided they would rather stay in the league for 3-4 extra years, get checks and play a reduced role. sure these past 3 years Iverson coulda been getting checks, and comin off the bench 10-12 points here and there..maybe a 25-30 pt outing a few times a year..but he has too much pride and wants to stay true. Kobe has the same mentality, he said he would never allow himself to be a 17ppg guy , hed retire before it got to that point.

I remember Iverson saying he would never be one of those guys that collects checks when he doesnt deserve em.

being a low 40% shooter is quite an accomplishment when you are as small as AI and putting up the volume of shots he had to attempt over his career. Idk if youve ever played in a league where the avg dude is 6'7 230 and athletic as hell.
dont forget everytime AI went on the court the opposing team's whole defensive plan was to STOP him for getting easy shots. go watch a sixers game from 2005/06 when Ai avgd 33 & 7 on 45% shooting.

The WHOLE offense ran thru him, he played 43 minutes a night after night. Yeah he will miss a few shots due to fatigue, or because he is too small, but understand FG % should not be analyzed as just numbers. You have to take into account the context of it.

My 2nd favorite player ever after MJ, it was a pleasure to watch him dominate as a Hoya and Sixer.
