Thoughts on the Johnathon Martin - Ritchie Incognito situation?

Since someone brought up the football side. As much as I've defended Martin personally off the field, he's underperformed as a second round pick. He may not be a very good football player. And now his confidence is shattered. Likely he's labeled mentally or emotionally soft, fragile.

Another team should give him a chance away from Richie. An organization with strong veteran presence and leaders in the locker room. I'd be surprised if he rallies to succeed as a NFL starter.

I'm not playing DA. I asked a legit question.

You know full and well a team full of brothers wouldnt stand up for a white dude calling another dude a ****** if they knew about it.

**** outta here.

There's gotta be a reason he didn't feel comfortable going to any of them though. Apparently Pouncey was in on the hazing stuff too (not to the level Richie was), and thats another lineman. I think he handled it the only way he can..the dude who covers them for the Herald was on the radio and said dudes are scared of Richie in that locker room, add to the fact that a guy like this is voted, by teammates to the leadership council? Other players may have dismissed martin as being soft if he went to them. He went to coaches and didn't rat anyone out but made them totally aware. They assumed it was handled which is ridiculous on their part, like nobody checked in on the guy to see if his situation was ok?

This is speculation but dude has underperformed and if hes playing right next to the scumbag who was doing all this, its not far fetched to think that SEVERELY affected how well he could perform his job on the line. There is literally no way at all I'm believeing that type of behavior on the VM is the only time he was treated that way by Incognito, no way. People tend to have a herd mentality, it takes a lot of character to stand up for a guy who everyone mocks and screws with, especially to a wackjob "team leader" like Incognito. It shouldn't take a racial slur to get your fellow teammates to intervene. Hell even if Tannehill knew (not saying he did) but a guy on your line protecting your backside is getting attacked daily and its affecting his play you'd wanna tell the guy to chill and fall back.

I'm not the one who did it, but you're contradicting yourself so badly right now.

"It's just name calling. Plus racial slurs, homophobic slurs, and threats to his mother. Big deal. Stop being a wuss, stand up for yourself, and just deal with it. What a soft era we live in."

"Hey, an NTer called me a name! Mods, do something!"

I see where your coming from but we know how this board works. Its been times where I've had members on here say something slick to me only for me to say something disrespectful back and end up getting suspended banned by meth because the person who initiated the conflict got butthurt and reported me. I realized how some member on here are, they can dish it out but can't take it so rather then get baited into saying something to get me banned ill just report them. If the board wasnt so strict I would post something disrespectful instead.

Still though in general if you can't express your self towards someone without name calling when you disagree with them It just makes that person look silly.

Where does everyone see Martin's career going forward?

Regardless of who's right/wrong in this incident...I'm not sure how he can live this down. What opposing player isn't going to think they can EASILY get in his head and rattle him after this?

Without all the facts in place yet, some are going to say point blank that Martin "quit" on his team. True or not, don't matter, it will get said. He had a prank, got mad, got up and left the facility and went home.

WHY that occurred, I have no idea. Nor does anyone else.

Let's say one of the rumors is true, that his sexuality came into question. How easy will it be for other teams to say they don't want to sign him because he "quit"?

Just like why Kerry Rhodes don't have a job, or Jason Collins. Teams will find an excuse and use that so they don't look guilty.

Martin was an already struggling lineman, who can catch a quitter label, with issues, that may or not be about his orientation. He is going to have a hard time finding work if that all comes out. If he comes back to the team after Incognito is clipped, and plays nice with everyone else, says it was just Richie, etc, then maybe things blow over quietly. I suspect, as of now, neither Ritchie or Martin will be back.

BTW, the Dolphins Oline had one of it's best games with neither Martin or Incognito on the field last week. I find that strange, but maybe telling.

Miami Dolphins need to clean house starting with Ireland & coaching staff. IMO they knew about the bs happening but ignored the situation. Also hope Richie dirty *** never plays in the NFL again

I'm getting a bit confused that players are backing Incognito.

So should you all.

So far I've seen 5-6 players and former players back him. Dansby, Wallace, Davis, Lane, most notably, given that they are not white. So I'm not sure what's happening here. I thought they'd all bury Richie immediately.

Dolphins players backed Richie Incognito. Many of them seemed upset that he is gone and they don't seem to think it was warranted

What the hell.......?

Cp1708 you could've left Collins off the list dude isn't good but Rhodes on the other hand yeah he getting railroaded cause he is still good IMO.

Not sure what's going on at this point, players supporting Incognito is not surprising though ... pretty sure this is going to be a hot topic of discussion on Monday Night Countdown, probably won't hear too much about the Packers vs Bears.

This is basically like some elementary school bullying. A dude picks out the weakest guy and ****'s with him until something happens. Martin shoulda stood up and told Incognito get outta here with that BS and kept it moving and if that means they had to throw hands then so be it. But like I said in the WIR thread it's a different story if he has some mental issues or whatever.

If I'm being disrespected AT WORK, I can't physically attack the guy without being labeled a dangerous hothead myself. I guarantee I'd get fired before the verbal abuser would. Don't call Martin soft for taking the professional route in dealing with it. This isn't like when you're in school where there are no long term consequences for getting into a fight

Definitely why I feel there was some serious leadership problems in that locker room. If all are defending Richie on some "no blood, no foul" bs, then this speaks to a larger issue inside those walls...And quite possibly to situations on other teams in the NFL.

I just meant in terms of teams not having a job for them.

And really, Martin hasn't played well, wouldn't he be more Collins than Rhodes if he was lookin for work?

Nobody is saying he should step to him and start swinging.

Tell him to chill out and go on about your business. If he comes at you like he said he would in those messages defend yourself.

Some people just need to be hit in the head with a brick

Yeah compare your job where your probably easily replaced to a pro athletes where we know that fights happen all the time.

CP1708 I was just saying regarding Collins I don't think he would be in the league regardless it is just his sexuality that makes it one anyway while at least Rhodes was still a good player that wasn't at the end of the line like Collins. I get what you're saying though.

So because athletes fight all the time he shouldn't have took the professional route

Nobody ever punishes the person who threw the first stone, remember that.

this.

i was reading reports that martin participated in some pranks towards other teammates as well though,

Guys fight ALL the time at every level of football whether it's on the practice field, in the locker room, etc. It's normal when you have 50+ physically gifted, competitive, alpha males playing a violent game. This is football and not a pencil pushing 9-5 desk job. Not comparable at all. Martin should of knocked that punks block off.

I really wish people like you would just think instead of going for cheap lol's cause that isn't what was said at all.

And after he did that then what? You think it ends there?

Sorry, that just means the culture of the game is @$#@$@ up; it doesn't mean Martin did something wrong.

This dude Incognito had the whole team on his side from what it seems. You're saying one dude should take on all of them?

I don't even see why certain questions need to be asked. It's pointless.
