I joined a Fraternity VOL. Rep your Fraternity/Sorority

I am in Pi Kappa Alpha.

It was fun. The 'anti fraternity' mentality is lame, let people live. I joined cuz my best friend did. Outside of money lost, I don't really regret it. I still kick it with some if my fraternity friends, meet way more girls than the people I knew not in fraternities ( of course there are exceptions) but trust when I say, for girls the benefit is there. If your not in a fraternity, even if you're there everyday, you see a snapshot if what it's like, there's so much more than non-fraternity people see.

It was a 'traditional' ... White... Fraternity, largest house on Kstates campus.

I'm black, if that matters.

Lol, I'm black. I was in a white fraternity. Read through this thread makes me Lol

I've been initiated, had a great time in college. I'm not defending or admitting anything said in this thread, let the ill informed believe with they want. What you eat don't make me **** -Jayz.

Why would he would be trolling? I don't understand.

And they usually keep the baddest ones. Everytime I see the license plate I pull up closer. All the **** that my other American brethren are into like frats and mason's don't mean much to me, I don't have a family history with them being from another country. Nothing against them though. Some mason's are corny as **** though.

There are corny people in every major organization. Even mine. From my own chapter, no less.

That's why you can't judge an individual from the colors the wear/letters they rep.

am1x90xnike am1x90xnike , do you homie. I could never get down with an org that started as whites only, but I know a couple of Pikes out here in Minnesota. Wild dudes, but cool people. Those parties? Ridiculous.

I just don't see why black dudes are joining a white fraternity.

Everybody is different, but does anyone care to explain the reasoning behind that..

What do the names mean? Is it just any 3 Greek letters?

Each Greek letter has it's own meaning.

Each organization (at least, I would hope) incorporates the meanings of those letters as a foundation to build from. Look at the crests/emblems/etc of some of the organizations and you'll see meaning with them.

Every color, every line, and every symbol has a meaning.

Same reason white dudes join black fraternities. You shouldn't join a black fraternity just because you are black. The same for white fraternities/sororities and white people.

There are a number of factors as to why someone picks a specific organiztion, but it boils down to a few things: A. Who are you most comfortable with, and can you hang out with them beyond the scope of fraternal business/parties? B. Do you see a benefit in joining that organization above other organizations? C. Will that organization accept you?

Maybe as a black dude you feel more comfortable hanging out with white people. Maybe vice versa. It's for the individual to decide, and we're not ones to judge them.

You know what's funny, the notion of self segregation. 'I wouldn't join an organization that started as whites only' this country was literally started as whites only. I'm glad I evolved from the us v them mentality. .

Even before I joined my 'blackness' has always been in question to other black people...but I'm good because now black people stay on there 'I'm proud of you' ' i don't know how you did it' 'can you help me with...

I didn't spend my life trying to be black or trying to be white, I spent my life trying to be me. Part of me is the years I spent in PIKE, I liked it, didn't love it, but I liked it.

No overt racism, no 'trying to keep me out' I don't think I even heard a racists joke, in fact, I remember when some Sig Ep dude made a racists comment about Muslims, he got forcibly removed from the house. While jokes were cracked, the over riding notion of misogyny wasn't like most people think.

Think of it like this, there are 7 days a week, we only were allowed to have parties once, maybe twice a month, in house and outta house. You ever ask what we did those other...rest of the damn month? We took etiquette classes, we had to volunteer around town, forced study hours, we had to cook in the kitchen, we had to constantly clean and maintain the house, we use to have to take classes on taking girls on dates, had 'socials' with sororities which were essentially dancing lessons.

I think a lot of you are really really narrow minded, stereotypes about whites hold back the black community. Want you to understand I went to school at Kansas State, school of 28,000 and about 1,000 were black. I got more dirty looks and felt more prejudice from the black people on campus than I did from anywhere else. Yea, I was mad.

I don't question why people of a given race joins a organization filled with other ethnic groups. IMO, you get in where you fit in. If a black guy feels he fits in with a predominantly/historically white organization, so be it. I'd rather you join up with a group of people you actually get along with, rather than forcing yourself to conform to the traits of another organization solely because it's the more conventional thing to do.

I've met a couple of white Kappas. Dudes were cool as hell.

Only thing positive I see from joining any Greek org was they all share tests. If you're the same major as some of the older members you can get all of the old tests and homework. Luckily I was all buddy buddy with a few in my classes so I studied with them :D
So cheating yourself out of an education is cool

What about his posts imply trolling? If anything you're the one trolling by repeating the same statement without an explanation

DC Area.. Alot of my boys are Kappas. Quite the sight when they all get together. Lots of fun though. I've never pledged.. Not really my lane. But cant knock those that do imo.

Only thing that would blow me really is the monthly/yearly fees

Phi Beta Sigma

First off, congrats to you on joining a fraternity. Being greek is what you make it. I had plenty of amazing times and just as many bad times. Met plenty of great people along the way. Its an amazing experience, but at the same time its not for everyone. It put Me in a lot of positions I probably wouldve had a hard time getting into, but I took full advantage of them, and I Will say it has changed Me for the better. Im pretty sure I still would have developed into the person I am now without the letters regardless, but the experiences I went through did help mold Me into who I am now.

SN: I think my campus is one of the few that has NPHC Chapter houses that are actually on campus. Kappas, Deltas, Sigmas, & Zetas all have Chapter houses on campus. Now they arent much compared to the PHC Chapter houses lol but its still a rarity nonetheless.

I don't know why I said on campus earlier, I've actually never been to a college with fraternity houses on the actual campus. They're always in neighborhoods near or adjacent to campus where a lot of students live. Except for CSU Pomona. That school is peculiar all the frat houses are a couple miles from the school on the strip with all the zombies and prostitutes.

It's not cheating, he's talking about test bank. Exams from previous semester are retain and they have access to them and use them pre-test. There's no guarantee that the current semester exams would be the same, but it would be similar and it gives you a good idea to what is important and what to focus on when you study. Doesn't mean you are cheated out of an education, just helps you study more efficiently. Some professor will provide you a sample test, a test bank is just a more comprehensive sample.

And never got the whole "paying for friends", when you take a step back, it's like any other clubs, organizations, family, meaning just cause you're in the same fraternity as me doesn't mean I have to like you, you develop close friendship/relationship the same way you would in any other organization. Benefits? Enhances college experience, test banks, networking, mentorship, free housing, tour guide and parties when you travel, etc.. I've graduated for a while and have established a career and still talk now and then to younger guys who are still in school to offer advice on classes, writing resume, career path and give heads up whenever my company is hiring. A brother referred me to my current job, I've referred two more bros to their current job. Is joining a fraternity necessary for all of this? No, but it does have its benefits.

Bruh, that **** is cheating.

I'm not on some moral high ground tip, I've obtained old test and shared test before. A spade is a spade and ^ that's cheating.

Unless your professor condones it verbally or in writing and those old test are available to EVERYONE, that **** is cheating.

You and I have different interpretation of the term cheating then. I still had to study and thoroughly understand the topics being tested so I don't consider it cheating.

You choose not to consider it cheating. By definition, it's cheating. It's not even a big deal it's just funny to hear it outright denied.
cheat

CHēt/

verb

gerund or present participle: cheating

act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, esp. in a game or examination.
Like I said unless those conditions I listed above are met, in reality it is cheating.
