I joined a Fraternity VOL. Rep your Fraternity/Sorority

In my opinion this is more of a reason to join, if your father was a brother of a fraternity on your campus. It shouldn't be the ONLY reason, but it should help further aid one's decision to do so.

Most people I know, join the fraternity/sorority that their parents were in. It's just the right thing to do. At least in the black community.

I know people that had to go through an alumni chapter because the chapter on campus during their undergrad was suspended, inactive, etc.

I'm from Houston (The South) and I go to an HBCU: Howard.

All of this is just personal preference.

My dad knows me well, he knows im more of a "against the grain" type of guy. Myself joining any kinda group would be weird, im more of a loaner / leader (Not saying frats all are followers)

Plus i made some pretty strong friendships outside of frat scene because of what we went thru in college together bein black in a mostly white school (Georgia Southern)

My little brother currently goes to Howard in his 3rd/4th year and he doesn't really want to pledge anything either. My father has dealt with it lol, he says at least we didnt join sigma or alpha or something besides nupes

lol you a fool bruh....you must've been looking for hot & hazy weather to swim :nerd:

:pimp:
You graduated from Southern huh? Me, my Ace and my neo probably taking a trip over there for homecoming this weekend. I'm gonna shoot you a PM.

You a fool for charging ole boy up.

Yeah, Poly-Psi, KSS Kardinal Rule
Spring 2k12, Deuce Klub
The Ψ of ΚΑΨ

Yo Yo to all the bruhs. If y'all ever in the 612, roll one with ya boy. :pimp:

I had to do it Nupe.

I'm not tripping though. Alumni's experience a different side of the Bond so I hardly ever expect them to have had a process like undergrads. I just hope dude does work for Kappa. ****, I'm looking to join a grad chapter now so I can give back. God knows being the Nupes has given me more than I can remember.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon.  We're pretty much your stereotypical "preppy" and "douchey" Fraternity at my school, but all the bros are honestly laid back and the chapter is one of the more diverse Fraternities on campus (if not the most diverse).  The school's been trying to eliminate the partying scene as much as possible, so it's been kind of meh. But the stories I've heard from 4-5 years ago were epic, and we have the rap sheet to back it up.

have you ever thought about going back bro?  32 credits is about one year of schooling.  What was your degree in?  Would it be worth it?

Funny you should ask...yeah i've been thinking a lot about it lately. Currently making around $35k and its NOT cutting it...luckily I don't have any kids or anything major right now so I can pay my bills and what not. But i'll be 30 next year and I feel like its time for a new direction in life.
I was working towards a degree in Business Management but If I go back/finish online, im leaning towards IT information technology.

I wanna also mention that a lot of things being stated in this thread apply to white fraternities more so than black.

For those that don't know, Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity inc., Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity inc. Omega Psi Phi fraternity inc. are predominantly black fraternities.

Pi Kappa Alpha is predominantly white.

The houses.. At least out my way most black organizations don't have houses on campus. That's only the white orgs.

Black greek life at a PWI is smaller. NPHC organizations (for the most part) focus more on quality of the members as opposed to quantity, like many white organizations do.

There are a few similarities between the two but it's a different ball game for the most part.

Greek life gets respect in the South, for sure.

Not in a frat, but mostly  you're in it for the networking and community service.
I don't think that networking is all the way true... Especially for black frats...

I think university ties >>>> frat ties

I could be wrong though...

i joined when i was in college...i transferred into my uni and didnt know a soul...transfers are sort of treated like lepers because my school was very clickish and bubblish, despite being in the middle of a city

it was cool but i wasnt the most active brother but showed up enough to not get disaffiliated

I put the Kane down after I crossed my own line. But best believe I will never stop shimmying. Some habits die hard. Word to me catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror and letting the shoulders roll for a second or two.

November 14th makes 4 years in the Bond for me. Done been the Dean of a line, graduated, won Kappa-man of the year for my chapter, and looking for a grad chapter. Feeling like an old head

To OP, get some Chubbies shorts

Wow, a lot of hate for Frats/Sororities on here. I'm not sure if it's like that on the West/East coast since most of NT members are of places of that sort, but down South we get a lot of respect down here.

Anyways...Spring 11, Zeta Xi of that 2 Live Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Where my Ice Cold Bros at? We just won our school's stepshow this past weekend. Can't tell yall how much of a great feeling that was.

1111119!

With all the free info and advice; NT is a fraternity. Only the intelligent people know about NT. We even have our own words and phrases like yambs, dambs, eem, Da hemi...etc.

That is something that I will learn... When I was at C. Rodger Wilson this weekend, it was a few old heads still shimmying.

I'm telling you Phi. I remember going to cluster when I crossed my boys. The alumni bruhs took everyone out to a club. Old dudes, some with grey hair some with no hair, all faded. Bunch of em were shimmying. On that "**** with me, I still got it" steeze.

Go to the Jonathan Martin thread and the Biker incident thread. NT is full of morons

To each his own, but there's something really strange about getting paddled by men who also like men. :x Sorry but I'm good.

I can only speak for what goes on at my university tho.
