One of my family member was driving my car and  got a red light ticket. The ticket was issued to my name because i'm the registered owner of the car. Obviously i'm not the driver so i'm not reliable for the ticket. However i do not want to disclose aka snitch on the family member to the judge. Somebody told me that as long that i'm not the driver the ticket will likely get dismissed. Have anyone of you come across similar situation? If so what did you do to get it dismissed in court? All i can think of is to say that i was not the driver and i don't know who the actual driver is.

UPDATE:

Ticket was dismissed

the whole point i'm trying to do is to get it dismissed and not making the family member pay. 500$ ain't cheap

I thiught that if they couldn't prove you were the driver then you didn't have to pay?

some one will have to pay for it, so its up to you to figure that out

if it was true that you dont have to pay if its not your car then i would just trade cars with a friend and never have to pay for a ticket ever

I know thy declared these stoplight cams unconstitutional in Minnesota for this exact reason. Now all the corners have cameras but none of them are in use. :smh:

unless you claim your car being stolen, you gave consent for another person to drive your car. your car = your ticket

man up, tell whoever to pay it or its yours til its payed

traffic cams have no sympathy

nvm then. I might as well go talk to a lawyer. I thought NT is better than this.

All i know is as long as i'm not the driver they can't convict me for violating the law. It's against the law to convict a person of something they didn't do.

True. Not all red cam in Cali are in use either. Only some are still in use. I also read somewhere on the internet that they can't convict you if you're not the driver or if the photo is unclear
