Just donated. I recently got around to donating to the Red Cross too. Money is tight with me at the moment, but I needed to help out my homeland in anyway.

Hopefully it doesnt get stopped in transit. My mom's cousin is a prominent lawyer in Manila, both originally from Tacloban. Apparently, they are not allowing food, supplies, etc. He had three 30ft. trucks filled with supplies and was stopped. Just a shame that theres so much help and supplies coming from all over the world, but the question is whether it will get there at all.

Most of my relatives in Tacloban are flying out of there, they said the stench of all the dead bodies is horrible. Dont know how I would be if I had to go thru with what they had to go thru.

Thanks again to my fellow Niketalkers for donating!

my homie recently flew from California to Philippines to volunteer as an RN. He posted the following on his FB:
Quote:
"I just wanted to note that the devastation here in and around Tacloban is definitely real. Devastation is actually an understatement. And whatever you hear from the news, life is not nearing anything normal. Please donate if you can. Monetary is best. We are desperate for volunteer doctors. To make the situation more clear, I am currently working in a hospital with the parts of the ceiling blown off, no air conditioning, no monitors, no pulse ox and only rudimentary medications at our disposable. When it rains outside it rains inside. Our only source of light is a single lamp and my headlamp. We only have 1 MD, one other experienced Rn other than me, and a couple new grads. The only staff that remain from the hospital are two local Filipinos who survived the disaster. Despite these desperate conditions we are averaging 60-70 patients a day. This includes traumas, mva, severe asthma/ bronchospasms(with no access to nebulizers) near pediatric intubation, hemodynamic instability. These people desperately need our help, and will continue to do so for months. At my Philippine Red Cross base, people are working continuously, some with out sleep. I spotted a volunteer who literally fell asleep in the restroom. These are just a glimpse into my experience here and may mean nothing to those back home. But maybe it will help others get a better understanding of what is truly going overseas."
