Just tired of the hype, the bs at department stores, the audacity of hourly wage workers on Fifth Avenue, and the unreasonable emphasis on materialistic prestige, I'm gonna start making my own garments.

I just don't care anymore, and after the blatant disrespect of 2013 Fashion Week and the red carpet affairs, I'm convinced that if I put forth the time, effort and research I can make my own clothing. I feel my creativity and enthusiasm will be limitless.

For me, 2014 is all about being true to myself as I can. I ordered a sewing machine 2 weeks ago, I'll keep you guys updated and look forward to feedback. All my "Cut and Sew" NTer's feel free to add your creations or ideas for fashion.

This will be great.

You probably gonna be walking around looking like Oliver Twist until this phase passes you by but a lot more women make their own dresses and such things than most people think. I can respect it. I used to work with this lady who was nice with the sewing and stuff. She would do a lot of simple customizations/additions to some of my clothes I would give her. Mostly adding pockets to my athletic apparel. She used to make all her clothes, she also looked straight out the great depression.

if all that bothered you, you can just buy clothes at a kmart/walmart/target, or salvation army/goodwill.

that being said, shut up.

. I image it's the same as when a tailor takes your measurements, what's comfortable for you. Then apply it to a pattern or your own design. But I'm gonna be making all types of ill concoctions, my tastes in clothing is very unique. I don't know about other NT'ers but I live in NYC. We wear what we want, we make the clothes, the clothes don't make us.

Fabric $5-15 dollars a yard + a few man hours

 vs.

one item for $100+ dollars ...and it isn't one of kind?

Why you worried about how you "sound" to others? Either they're with it or they aren't your crowd.

Again, I live in New York City ...can't tell you how many celebs I've seen in fabric stores with designers shopping for materials. Some of you see them in pics and rush out to find their outfit, posting discount codes and what not.

I'm doing it because I want to, and I'm creative, not because of financial restraints. Don't worry, I'm gonna post pics.

iono about my own clothes but i wish i could do my own alterations (hemmings and taperings)

...the tailors do good work but are esspensive

Visvim does this.

U should look up hiroki nakamura.

Dude takes alot of pride in looking for materials and putting stuff together.

Good luck.

Learning to make your own clothes would be pretty cool.

....and that's the only thing i'm gonna say in this thread.

Just don't end up looking like Theo with the Gordon Gartrelle (sp?) Lol

I think sewing your own clothes is cool (if it comes out presentable)
