has anyone had success doing any freelance writing for blogs , newspapers ,magazines?

Not much for newspapers, but I guess it depends. I work at a newspaper doing HS sports stats, scores, boxes, etc and we hardly ever use 'stringers' anymore. Its usually just on occasion. It depends on the paper and the rate they want to pay you. I've seen some get paid 40-50 an article for a sporting event, some more and some less.

I'd call around to local papers and get your name out there. Tell them if they ever need a stringer, to keep you in mind.
