back in the day you had barkley, pippen, rodman, penny, garnett, kidd, paul peirce,
tim hardaway, gary payton, chris webber, tim duncan, even alonzo morning had 1 sig

its a list of people i could name that could have a sig line

1 kyrie irving

2 james harden

3 tony parker

4 kevin love

5 blake griffin

6 deron williams

7 paul george

8 anthony davis

9 jr smith

10 demar derozen

11 rondo

but nike jus focus on jus 3 players they need to bring that variety back

Rondo and TP can't have a sig line with Nike because they aren't signed with them anymore.

Blake is on JB. Paul George yes. Kyrie Irving or Kevin Love maybe off the strength of there game. The rest IMO couldn't carry there own sig.

Also Nike should keep their eye (and I know they are) on these young guns in the NCAA that are coming next year. I highly doubt Kobe will continue a sig line after he retires. So there will be a spot open for a new line.

Sidenote, who the **** does Kevin Love have a sneaker contract with. One minute I see him in Nikes, the next wearing 361 (Peaks?) shoes.

-But I guess we are just in a different time

Good question. Another thing is the 3 players who currently have a line of there own are clearly players who transcend the game. No one on that list is in there class. Although I have tons of respect for Tony Parker. Paul George is coming though.

nike also focuses on CP3 and Melo. Just moved Blake to JB so he might have something in the works.

They also focus on Westbrook where he is the Jordan signature series athlete (Jordan XX8) and DWade used to be a point of focus before he left.

Seems like they made Kyrie the face of the Hyperdunk line.

I thought Harden had a shoe in the works.

Parker rolled out. Rondo, Curry, and others did too.

I wouldn't say they only focus on the 3 athletes you mentioned.

Different people are running the company now - their vision is different from Phil Jackson's. Additionally Nike dominates the basketball market, so why pay athletes to endorse your product when they wear it at any opportunity they get? From a business point of view it makes more sense to just hand out complimentary goods vs. coming up with an entire sub-brand for that particular athlete.

Well back then a sig shoe had 2-3 colorways. How they have literally 90 or so. The same shoes are being sold over and over again. They really don't need multiple sigs

I think Love is signed with Peak. But I'm not 100% sure about that.

You're right, he's with Peak and they've clearly got the raw end of the deal when the casual consumer thinks that he's signed with Nike.

Didn't Nash leave Nike and sign with Peak or some Chinese shoe brand a few years ago? I just remember him wearing Nikes even though he supposedly "left" Nike

They think that because he wears Nike's on court. He was wearing Nike's in the preseason, he wears them at practice sometimes, over the last couple seasons I've seen him in Nike's.

K.Love is messed up for that. I remember then he first rumored to be going to Peak, he said something in interviews like "my agent got be a shoe contract with a Chinese company, they are going to pay me a lot more".....something along those lines. He said it a couple times. It's like he knows he is playing Peak and he don't eem care.

Keep getting those check big fella :smokin

Paul George is the only one who can reach that next level for Nike. Iriving is a possibility, but he needs to stay healthy and start actually winning.

George is going to win MVP this year.

Nike has such a stranglehold of the market, that its become cheaper and more profitable for them to design and promote 3 different shoes that will be released in 20+ colorways each, than in the past when they designed and advertised 10 different shoes that were only released in 2-3 colorways each.

actually love is wearing 361 , one of chinese sport apparel company. definitely not Peak basketball

i agree with some of yall to a certain extent but i do think that rondo kyrie paul george and harden should definitely have there own sneaker
maybe not a whole line with sweatsuits t shirts but i think these are marquee players that can hold there own
i jus would like to see more variety than just 3 players back in the day you had a good five different sneaks to choose from jordans, barkleys, pennys, pippens, and garnett

Your right he left Peak a couple years ago. The comments I mentioned were before he signed with Peak though.

So K.Love is playing a 2nd Chinese company :smokin

The current players you named don't have the appeal the retired players you named did. The retired players have all been to the finals or at one point been regarded as a top 5 player. Besides Paul George the others IMO won't sell off name alone nation wide. I'm a Wizard fan and won't touch John Walls shoes but I'm from PG County MD and support KD because we come from the same place. I lived 10 mins from Seat Pleasant. If KD wasn't a superstar I would buy them anyway. They would sell in the city of there team but nation wide I'm not so sure.

companies as a whole aren't doing Signature shoes like that.
I mean, reebok is just retroing shoes. I think they quit they basketball sig shoes and sent wall to their sister co Adidas.
Adidas has the drose but other athletes just are signed there. Dwight may have a shoe and Lillard is in the commercials.
Fila.... yea. Just keep retroing Grant Hills and Stackhouses.

Under Armor signs athletes but I don't think any of them have sig shoes.

bigj505 that's a great point and observation. The last and only time I can remember being hype to get a sneaker based off my team was the Air Jordan 17 and 18. MJ is the only Wizard I can think of that had a fly sig. Even though the 18 was so so.

I know this is a basketball discussion but there are other sigs. Calvin, Revis (although I hear he's 1 and done) and even Kanye could be classified as a sig. I'm honestly shocked that the NFL doesn't have more athletes with Nike sigs. Considering the popularity of the NFL. Side note I would love to see a Vick 1 retro.
