Who should be Nike's next "Signature" basketball player?

I recently saw a discussion start in the Kobe 9 thread about who should be Nike's next NBA signature, and it got me thinking. Who would you like to see, and what kind of shoe should they wear? NO BUYING, SELLING, OR TRADING ALLOWED. ALSO, NO PETTY ARGUMENTS. Save that stuff for PM-ing.

Either Paul George or wait for the upcoming draft and take a chance on Andrew, Parker, Smart...

Staying pro Paul George is the only 1 worthy of his own sig. Kyrie hasn't won enough. Good player but George is approaching top 5 status if he isn't already there. Nike can market and pull personality outta anyone. Homer pick Bradley Beal.

I'd like to see Paul George with his own sig. "Nike Air/Zoom PG" has a nice ring to it.

Other candidates: James Harden, Kyrie

I know it's not really an official signature, but i feel like James Harden already has his own shoe. He wears the Zoom Crusader. I have yet to see those hit the shelf or anyone beside him wearing them.

I think it was @mattsos on twitter saying it isn't economally viable for companies to invest in athletes with their own lines. Even for someone like Lebron it wasn't until just recently Nike has made any real profit from him.

To me Nike doesn't really differentiate signature lines from every other basketball shoe. Aside from Lebron's line (and I guess Kobe's) all other shoes seem to be slight variations of the same shoe.

That makes sense. Adidas signed Rose to what, a $250 million lifetime deal? I really don't think they'll get that investment back, as much as I hate to say it.

Especially now with his 2nd major injury. His contract is probably why they won't sign wiggins. Cost far outweighs the possible benefit.

THIS

Very few players are worth having there own line

This isn't the 90s anymore where a number of players had signature shoes. It makes better sense economically to toss out low six figure deals, let them get all the gear they want and be the face of a line like Rondo was for the Hyperfuse and Hyperposite and now Kyrie with the Hyperdunk. They'd be better off going with a Force vs Flight like they did in the late 80s.

If i was in the NBA i sign with nike in a heartbeat I would not care if they gave me my own show would be nice but at the end of the day i am getting paid to wear nike.... and aesthetically I can see my self in Rose's shoe.

I think we're not going to see that many more signature lines unless Nike is confident that they'll be able to market not only shoes but the merchandise that comes along with it. But that being said, a lot of players have been going down PE or NikeiD route and many are starting to even venture into customs. But i think it's one of those pride things where the players are holding out if the shoes companies don't feel like they're deserving of their own line. Which most of them aren't.

I deff wouldnt mind seeing more PE's released though. Like an Aldridge Hyperposite, or Harden's Crusader.

Definitely agree, but it becomes a matter of whether the stock is going to sit on shelves and end up at outlets or not.

how popular do you think the Chris Bosh Hyperposites will be? Honestly even Paul George PEs won't sell well because of the team colors.

There is no way to deny Chris Bosh's PEs go hard. Those black out Hyperposites with the gold swoosh....
