2014 NBA Draft Thread

This dude I knew that played on that Kansas team with Hinrich told me Kirk was the biggest pothead he ever met

Bulls are gonna draft Aaron Craft, he'll be the new Kirk Hinrich

Dudes are way too generous with their comparisons these days

Saw the Wiggins announcement to declare. He seems well-spoken and pretty mature. Haven't really heard any of the top prospects speak before.

I don't think there's any question that he's the #1 pick overall. His defensive intensity and ability put him over the top in my eyes. It'll compensate for the times he'll look lost and disinterested on offense because his personality lets him float a lot. I still question just how good he can be but I just don't trust Embiid's back (I cringe when bigs get hurt in college) and Parker played a position he won't in the pros. Not to say that's such a bad thing but I don't think his scoring ability is enough to make me take him first.

I can't wait for the draft to start already!

If the sixers land the number 1 and 6 pick...then we will be a dangerous team for years to come. 8)

Can someone explain to me why these big boards have Aaron Gordon going much higher than Adreian Payne?

adrien payne is 23. Aaron Gordon is 19.

age is so important when evaluating prospects.

also Aaron Gordon is an elite athlete.

Basically. Gordon is a ******* great defender, can dribble the ball well for a guy his size, great passer, has range on his shot out to the three point line, makes good decisions on the court, good kid off it, and has a ton of potential. He just makes winning plays on the basketball court. He doesn't have to score a single point to heavily affect the outcome of a game. I hope he drops to where the Pelicans pick will be. MCW + Wiggins/Jabari + Gordon + Noel.

Silly me, didnt realize Payne was already 23. This seems to be a scenario where there's more potential in Gordon but along with that more risk. Whereas Payne is the safer pick. If Aaron Gordon were to declare, honestly right now im still taking Payne. Payne's got the body, is able to impose his will in the paint, and has shown he can stroke it from anywhere. Im a little bit ignorant to what he does on the other side of the ball but I cant imagine hes a liability defensively. Especially when banging down low hes got the height and weight advantage on Gordon. I would need to see another year or two out of Gordon at Arizona. Because unless he gets bigger or improves offensively I wouldnt feel comfortable drafting him this year.

More than anything though, if I were a GM im always going to avoid a 4 who has the body of a 3.

That's why you're not an NBA GM, papi

I am high on Payne tho, always been a fan of his and he solidified his value this past season.

1. Payne and Gordon are basically the same size.

2. The job a talent evaluater is to project, you don't get another year or two to decide if Gorodon will be good.

Where do people keep getting the idea that Gordon isn't big enough to play the 4?

Who the hell knows. He's a very good post defender. He can guard basically every position.

What I saw was Gordon 6'8 210 compared to Payne 6'10 240. Im not knocking Gordons talent level, I just think 6'10 240 is more ideal in regards to talent translating over to the proffesional level. I would categorize 6'8 210 as undersized if you're going to play the 4. The only arguement im really making for Payne is that his body of work is more proven and his frame is better suited for the NBA. Whereas even though Gordons ceiling is higher in regards to talent it might not translate over as well if hes undersized. But if im wrong and hes not undersized, or if he grows than I really dont have anything to argue.

Gordon measured 6-9 at hoop summit 220 as a 19 year old.

Payne measured 6'10 225 at team usa camp and he's 23.

MSU team website has him at 245, I don'treally buy that, we will see at the combine.

Mmm im seeing websites with multiple numbers. Ah well thats what im trying to figure out. Im not here to put down my foot and say Payne is the better pick.

he's 23, if you look at people taken at that age in the draft in the last 10 years, its not pretty.

age is a gigaantic factor, paynes not a better pick under any circumstance.

Payne will be lucky to be drafted in the lottery.

I don't know where the hell some sites got that Gordon is 210 pounds but that had to have been his weight maybe at the start of his senior year or high school. Dude is swoll now and has the perfect frame to put on a lot more.

Does DeAndre Kane get drafted even though he's about half way to 30?

What's Dougie Buckets pro comparison ?

Like what's his ceiling ?

all depends on who he gets drafted by,

If he goes to a coach who wants him to stand in a corner and shooter threes, he can be a Wally Scerbiak type. kyle korver at worst.

But If a coach is smart, innovative, willing to use unconventional lineups, and move him all around the court,

a shorter Dirk.

I am really high on doug's talent, just don't know if coaches will use it right.

I think Doug and MKG would be a very interesting combination that could really highlight each of their strengths and cover up weaknesses.

I just wish people would stop with comparing people to Dirk. Calling Doug Dirk is just lazy. Doug was great this year but he is 22 and dominated against a horrible conference. He'll be Ryan Anderson like I think.
