The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Wow, Poirier going back to 155

"I'm big," he wrote via text message. "The cut made me hate the process of getting ready for a fight. I was focused on how to make weight instead of how to beat my opponent. It's sucks to drop out of the rankings, but it has to be done. I'm 180 right now and in great shape."

Poirier most recently lost via first-round TKO to Conor McGregor in September. He returns to the lightweight division after going 8-3 as a featherwieght. He did not provide any details on his next fight.

The 25-year-old Poirier started his MMA career 8-1 as a lightweight, however, he decided to switch weight classes prior to his UFC 125 fight against Josh Grispi in 2011. Poirier defeated Grispi via unanimous decision and subsequently won three more fights in a row before losing to Chan Sung Jung in May 2012.

"I want to fight the fights that fans want to see," he continued. "I'm excited to reintroduce myself at a more natural weight.

"Been a long time coming."

Out of the frying pan and into the fire...

He's young so he has time to develop but i don't see him breaking into the top 5 at LW.

I remember he would always always talk about food leading up to fights. I don't see how he ever gets to be the elite of 155 either, but happiness definitely counts for something. I think he'd rather be losing and eating than losing and starving lol

Aldo:

"I hope he’s [McGregor] next because it would be a huge fight," Aldo said during a Q&A session before UFC Fight Night 58 official weigh-ins in Barueri, Brazil, on Friday.

McGregor is 4-0 in the UFC, but Aldo doesn’t believe he’s good enough to fight for the gold. However, he wants the challenge.

"We have to look at both sides of the situation," Aldo explained. "He talks a lot, so it makes you more excited to fight. It makes it more intense. I hope he’s next and that we can do a great fight.

"He’s a tough fighter, but we haven’t seen him against a top 5," he continued. "He’s not ready, but the promotion he does is good. He’s a good athlete. He talks a lot. If he doesn’t talk that much, he wouldn’t be where he is today.

"I see Chad (Mendes) as the best of them. If you put (Frankie) Edgar, Conor or (Ricardo) Lamas, he beats all of them on the same night."

McGregor faces Dennis Siver in Boston on Jan. 18, and Aldo favors him to win.

"I’m rooting for Conor," he said. "Like it or not, I hope he wins because I will win a lot by fighting him."

Aldo on TJ:

"I would love to (fight him)," Aldo said with a laugh. "I really hope that fight happens, it would be great."

Aldo, who holds wins over Team Alpha Male products Urijah Faber and Chad Mendes(twice), eyes his fourth win against the team.

"I think he’s trying to promote himself, that’s why he’s saying that," Aldo said. "I would love to beat him up. It would be great to end my story with those three with a golden key."

I find that quote by Aldo as disrespect to Frankie

Is he wrong about Chad though??

He's the most dangerous and based on performances he gave Aldo the most to think about. I could see him edging Frankie and Ricardo.

GOAT murders him though :pimp:

Yes. Aldo said Chad would beat Frankie, Lamas and Conor in one night

Frankie has never been stopped and you're going to have one hell of a time out pointing him. You're definitely not going to outwrestle him. I don't see how Chad gets that much of an edge in a matchup. Both great fighters.

I like Conor so I'm gonna let your last comment slide

Frankie is prone to getting hit with big shots though. But they don't keep him down for long. One of the most durable fighters we've ever seen.

Frankie's taken the hardest shots you'll ever see and he has yet to be stopped. You're exactly right, he's an All-Time great in the durability department

I would love to see a Chad v Frankie match some day before they leave their primes

Those bombs he ate from gray and the upkick from ben that messed up his nose were brutal. Probably took a year off his life with that kinda damage.

Does Mendes survive those fights?

Maybe. Maybe not.

Frankie is a former champ. Still a top dog.

I'm not saying Chad is any "better" until they fight and I see it for myself.

Makes me wish Pride and their tournaments were still around. Imagine how good fw and lw tourneys would be.

Aldo unhappy about pay, apparently this is his third time on record complaining. It's going to take multiple title holders complaining to change this whole fighter pay dynamic. Kudos to Aldo for having the balls to step up. I don't know his contract numbers but I do know fighter pay is whacky in the UFC

"We should be treated better. Not only by the UFC but also by media. We are well treated by the fans. We make a lot less money than we should. We deliver shows and should be well paid. We virtually pay to fight. To become a boxer is complicated but would be very good."

It's the third time this year that Aldo has complained about his income, the first time was in May and the second in October.

Same, I think Silva will be OK, at 30 I think he is what he is.. just has to tighten up his wrestling defense and increase cardio

Cruz' hair for some reason bugs me. Like, how can he look in the mirror and be OK with that
