The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

Everything logical in the world tells me Chad would beat Conni but still....

"when featherweights get hit by me its a whole different ball game"

McGregor would open up with an axe kick for sure

Unpopular opinion, but I've long felt Gunnar Nelson is a better fighter at 170 than Conor McGregor at 145. Elite grappler, tightening up his standup defense. I know Maia is the only one to ever tap Rick Story, a top-level wrestler, but Nelson will be second. His win over Akhmedov really impressed me.

I'm still iffy with his wrestling. He got taken down and controlled in his last fight before pulling the sub. but i'm a fan. Would love to see Gunnar vs. Wonderboy Thompson.

and dammit Cung, why?!? i also gave him the benefit of the doubt when those pics came out of him all jacked, but damn..

I was reading the comments on mma junkie about the cung le story and someone had a quote from brian stann saying that a ped test is basically an iq test. That got a laugh from me. Maybe wand was better off failing a test and getting sudpended for months instead of forever.

Something tells me Frankie and Cub about to be pissed

"For now, McGregor still has plenty of business to take care of at Featherweight, as he will be flying to Brazil to be Octagon-side as Jose Aldo defends his title against Chad Mendes at UFC 179 on Oct. 25, 2014, in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

And something tells me "Notorious" isn't making the long trip just to take in the fights, but perhaps take part in-cage challenge against the winner of the main event championship fight."
Like I said before the fight I can see McGregor getting the next title shot at 145. And it'll probably be in some soccer stadium in Ireland. That would probably sell out and make UFC a lot of money. They already lost out on having Silva/Jones or Silva/GSP in Cowboys stadium, Silva/Sonnen in that stadium in Rio for the rematch, and Jones/Gus in that stadium in Sweden isn't planned at the moment anymore.

The only thing I can think of that would prevent McGregor getting a title shot next is Aldo losing and maybe he has that immediate rematch clause like Silva. But its clear that Dana isn't a big Aldo fan because his cards don't sell that well so he could be passed over for a rematch anyway.

There is no real reason to not give McGregor the shot now. Do I think he beats Aldo or Mendes today? No. But I actually think he would have a better shot against Aldo...

I don't see that first title fight making it to Ireland, though. Really throwing your champ into the fire. If Conor wins, his first defense will 100% be in Ireland.

The money is there, the hype is there. Worst case? He loses. He's young, he'll back back and can be a cash cow in two divisions.

If Aldo beats Mendes then you have to think the chances of Swanson or Frankie getting the next shot will be reduced as he's already beat both guys.

Things are playing perfectly into Conor's hands so far.

I see them booking Connor vs Aldo/mendes for Super Bowl weekend. They need a backup main event for silva and Diaz, unless think feel weidman will ready by than. Of course, it would nice if they stacked it.

I agree but I think they may rush to have the title fight in Ireland. UFC always has plans for something huge and then something gets in the way of things. If you ask Dana I'm sure he'd say he regrets not pushing harder for the Silva/GSP or Silva/Jones super fights to happen at Cowboys stadium. They sat around and said "next fight maybe" and the opportunity was gone and so was a huge cash show for them.

I don't think Weidman is gonna be on the Super Bowl weekend card. I think he's already scheduled for a ppv in Feb. The Connor vs Aldo/Mendes idea works but it all depends on Rousey. Rousey is scheduled to fight in January but they haven't decided if it'll be on the Jones/DC card or the Silva/Diaz one.

Can't be mad at McGregor getting a title shot next. Hell, Lesnar got one after losing to Mir then beating Heath Herring.

The first Lesnar and mir fight was bs. Would've liked to have seen Lesnar smack the mustache off mizzugatti like he said he would.

I want to see how good Carla is. She has that #1 ranking. So did Invictus just get rid of that division and most of their fighters just move to the ufc?

The heavyweight division was nowhere near the caliber of what the featherweight division is currently

With that said...

You can't blame the UFC for making Aldo v McGregor. You could sell out a soccer stadium in either Brazil or Ireland and hit on PPV buys. It would be the best selling fight the division could produce right now. You can't say no to easy huge money.

^^^ you don't say that how dare you Chael was all American wrestler and jober on the mic

Connor is the new Chael. :smh:

Was obvious from the start of his act. I like it though and I liked Chael. Chael was gifted a few fights but overall he still put in that work (though on TRT)

I ******* hate it. This is one reason the UFC will never reach full legitimacy in many peoples eyes, and shouldn't. All this WWE nonsense :smh:

That's a valid complaint but like I said, Chael did put in work. There was nothing WWE about his work in the octagon. But I understand where you're coming from.

The UFC will never be legit in the mainstream.. oh well

Guys who sell fights are good in my book. Conor has some legit skill too. Again, so did Chael.

Chael might be the most hated fighter on the planet he talked so much ish, but I respect dude for the fights he took on short notice and always wished he could of been champion

Carla chocked out Angela I'm shocked they both didn't just stand and

Hahahaha Pettit asking what that smell was of Cocoa butter haha

Chael had skill but did nothing of significance in the sport. Nothing

Yet he was a headliner. It was a bloodly joke what reflected bad on the UFC and its fans.

And Shogun should be ashamed he let himself get caught by dude

-And I don't respect dude taking a 7 figure check to receive and *** whoopin. :smh:  Ohhhhhh such a warrior :rolleyes
